Detectives are investigating the attempted thefts of ATM machines from two supermarkets, one in Edinburgh and one in Glasgow, on the same night.<\/p>\n

The incidents happened in the early hours of January 7, with the first in Glasgow at 1:10am at a store in Edinburgh Road and the second at 2:50am at a shop on Whitehouse Road in the capital.<\/p>\n

In Glasgow, a white Nissan Navara was used in the attempt to steal the ATM and was abandoned at the scene. Four men dressed in dark clothes and wearing face coverings left the area in a grey hatchback vehicle along Edinburgh Road.<\/p>\n

In Edinburgh, a black Nissan Navara is understood to have been involved and was driven deliberately at a police car. No officers were hurt.<\/p>\n

The driver abandoned the Nissan Navara and left the scene in a vehicle \u2013 possibly an Audi A3 \u2013 with another two men.<\/p>\n

The vehicle drove off in the direction of Maybury Road, with the three men dressed in black clothing with face coverings.<\/p>\n

Detective Inspector Ross Jamieson said of the Glasgow incident: \u201cWe believe this was a targeted attempt to steal the ATM. Our investigation is progressing, but we are particularly keen to hear from motorists and local residents who may be able to help.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you were driving in the area at the time and have dash-cam footage, or if you live or work nearby and have private CCTV or doorbell cameras, please check the recordings. Any footage, no matter who insignificant it may seem, could prove crucial in identifying those responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Detective Inspector Alan Sharp said of the Edinburgh attempted theft: \u201cWe are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious. As part of enquiries, we are carrying out a review of CCTV and conducting door to door enquiries.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would ask residents to check doorbell footage to see if you have captured anything that can assist our enquiries. I would ask motorists to do the same and check dash-cam footage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 0129 for Glasgow and 257 for Edinburgh, both of 7 January, 2026, or alternatively anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.<\/p>\n
