{"id":680894,"date":"2026-01-07T22:43:29","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T22:43:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/680894\/"},"modified":"2026-01-07T22:43:29","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T22:43:29","slug":"celtic-linked-patrick-bamford-could-move-again-in-january-after-sheffield-united-form","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/680894\/","title":{"rendered":"Celtic-linked Patrick Bamford could move again in January after Sheffield United form"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Celtic\u2019s search for a striker last summer was not very enjoyable.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Failed pursuits of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/louis-munteanu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Louis Munteanu<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/kasper-dolberg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kasper Dolberg<\/a> eventually left <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/brendan-rodgers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brendan Rodgers<\/a> scrambling in the free agent market.<\/p>\n<p>This led him to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/kelechi-iheanacho\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kelechi Iheanacho<\/a>  \u2013 but this wasn\u2019t the only free agent the Hoops were looking at. Two former England strikers were also on the agenda.<\/p>\n<p>One of them, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/jamie-vardy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jamie Vardy,<\/a> ended up making a successful move to Serie A with Cremonese. Use the comment button on the bottom left to have your say <\/p>\n<p>   Celtic-linked Patrick Bamford could move in January<\/p>\n<p>32-year-old Bamford didn\u2019t start a single league game for Leeds last season and was released in the summer.<\/p>\n<p>The Blades took a chance on him, and have been rewarded with five goals in ten appearances.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/news\/hayato-inamura-says-there-are-things-he-cant-say-in-cold-reflection-on-celtic-move\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hayato Inamura says there are \u2018things he can\u2019t say\u2019 in cold reflection on Celtic move<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/GettyImages-2250348977-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Sheffield United v Stoke City - Sky Bet Championship\" \/>Photo by Harriet Massey\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>However, United signed Bamford on a short-term contract which will expire after their match against Mansfield on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patreon.com\/posts\/147551765?utm_campaign=postshare_creator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Alan Nixon,<\/a> this has piqued the interest of Ipswich Town and other Championship clubs who could now look at taking the striker on a free.<\/p>\n<p>It was reported in early September that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/club\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Celtic<\/a> had made an \u2018enquiry\u2019 for Bamford over a potential free transfer, but in the end, they opted for Iheanacho.<\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian forward has looked more than capable when involved, but his fitness has proved a real barrier to him finding momentum.<\/p>\n<p>Bamford made over 200 appearances for Leeds United between 2018 and 2025, earning a call-up for England in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>He would be far from the trendiest choice if Celtic were to go for him, but this is Celtic that we\u2019re talking about\u2026<\/p>\n<p>          What do think of the first Celtic training session under Martin O\u2019Neill? Use the comment button on the bottom left to have your say <\/p>\n<p>   Martin O\u2019Neill on signing a striker with Celtic<\/p>\n<p>Interim Hoops boss <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/martin-oneill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Martin O\u2019Neill<\/a> knows as well as anyone that the team is in need of reinforcements.<\/p>\n<p>He told the media on Tuesday: \u201cOf course if you could sign all the players that you\u2019d want to have, it would be great, and it doesn\u2019t work like that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI generally work within the parameters of the club, but I\u2019d be hoping that now we\u2019re in a bit of difficulty, we have to fight back, and I would say the same to the board.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we\u2019re all aware, and so are the fans, that we do, the squad needs strengthening, if we can do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going all out to try and do that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would be hoping for it, but if the board were to listen to me, then we would have about 56 players, so I will try and narrow it down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you\u2019d be aware, of what positions we need to strengthen in, and that\u2019s what we\u2019re going to try and do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a difficult window, and in terms of buying players, things like this here, that\u2019ll be difficult, but we do need, we do need to supplement the squad, absolutely no question about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>  Join Our Newsletter <\/p>\n<p>Receive a digest of our best Celtic content each week direct to your mailbox<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Celtic\u2019s search for a striker last summer was not very enjoyable.
