France says it is coordinating with Germany and Poland on a joint response after the White House revealed that President Donald Trump is weighing \u201ca range of options\u201d to capture\u00a0Greenland, including the possible use of military force against the Danish territory.<\/strong><\/p>\n

French Foreign Minister Jean-No\u00ebl Barrot said on\u00a0Wednesday that\u00a0the issue will be raised at a trilateral meeting with his German and Polish counterparts.<\/p>\n

“We want to take action, but we want to do so together with our European partners.”<\/p>\n

The White House said on Tuesday that Trump has been discussing “a range of options” to seize Greenland, including the use of the military. It claimed that annexing the semi-autonomous territory of\u00a0NATO member Denmark was a “national security priority.”<\/p>\n

Denmark warned that any attempt by the United States to seize Greenland by force would effectively spell the end of the transatlantic military alliance and \u201cpost\u2011second\u2011world\u2011war security.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n

European leaders have rallied around Denmark and Greenland, warning\u00a0that the Arctic territory \u201cbelongs to its people, and only Denmark and Greenland can decide on matters concerning their relations.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reiterated that a US attack on Greenland\u00a0would fundamentally undermine NATO.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the United States chooses to attack another NATO country militarily, then everything stops,\u201d\u00a0Frederiksen said on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump has claimed without evidence that Greenland is \u201cfull of Chinese and Russian ships\u201d and that Denmark is incapable of defending the territory \u2014 claims\u00a0Danish officials have dismissed as inaccurate and misleading. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The US president originally floated the idea of acquiring Greenland during his first presidential term, describing it as akin to a \u201clarge real estate deal.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n

The territory’s position between Europe and North America makes it a key site for installing the US ballistic missile defense system.<\/p>\n
