{"id":68172,"date":"2025-05-02T10:44:13","date_gmt":"2025-05-02T10:44:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/68172\/"},"modified":"2025-05-02T10:44:13","modified_gmt":"2025-05-02T10:44:13","slug":"healthcare-worker-logged-all-unpaid-overtime-before-quitting-but-now-her-boss-is-furious-and-an-ethics-complaint-is-coming-twistedsifter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/68172\/","title":{"rendered":"Healthcare Worker Logged All Unpaid Overtime Before Quitting, But Now Her Boss Is Furious And An Ethics Complaint Is Coming \u00bb TwistedSifter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-488048\" class=\"wp-image-488048\" src=\"https:\/\/twistedsifter.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/lazy-load-0.7\/images\/1x1.trans.gif\" alt=\"Woman stressed out with head on her desk\" width=\"800\" height=\"420\" title=\"Healthcare Worker Logged All Unpaid Overtime Before Quitting, But Now Her Boss Is Furious And An Ethics Complaint Is Coming\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Overtime-Thumb.jpg\" data-lazy- data-lazy-\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-488048\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pexels\/Reddit<\/p>\n<p>If your boss won\u2019t respect your time or pay you for it, they shouldn\u2019t be shocked when you stop picking up the slack.<\/p>\n<p>So, what would you do if your employer kept pushing you to work overtime but refused to pay for it, then punished you for tracking your hours too well?<\/p>\n<p>Would you keep going above and beyond?<\/p>\n<p>Or would you stick to your schedule and see what happens?<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/MaliciousCompliance\/comments\/164n5az\/wants_me_to_work_overtime_but_wont_pay_for_it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">following story<\/a>, one healthcare worker faces this exact predicament and has had enough.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what\u2019s going on.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I am in the midst of leaving a truly terrible job.<\/p>\n<p>I have only been there for a year, but began noticing issues after the first month.<\/p>\n<p>Now, this is in healthcare, and we work with very vulnerable people.<\/p>\n<p>I have seen some horrendous ethical issues and a lack of competency among employees and my employer (e.g., permitting clinicians to perform tasks they are not trained in, recommending treatments that are basically pseudoscience).<\/p>\n<p>Not to mention my employer has no respect for boundaries or work-life balance (which are essential in this field if you want to avoid burnout), and has horrible work-life balance, time management, and organizational skills themselves, leading them to be behind on all work constantly with over 2000 emails sitting in their inbox.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The incompetence started to affect daily operations.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This also resulted in much of my work being delayed, and clients getting upset that they are waiting for things that the employer needs to do.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this incompetence, I get constant emails and texts asking me to work on off days, or my employer texting at 8pm or 7am and expecting a reply.<\/p>\n<p>I have set very clear boundaries from the start that I don\u2019t work outside my hours, and have also raised concerns about the ethics\/competency issues, which resulted in my employer becoming defensive and emotional, and changing nothing.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Now, she\u2019s no longer allowed overtime.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Since giving my notice, the employer has been pushing boundaries even more.<\/p>\n<p>So, being the compliant human that I am and because I do need to wrap up things that I have been waiting for my employer to get to for months, I began responding and including every single work-related communication outside of my hours or requests for a \u201csmall task\u201d that I need to complete on an off day as hours worked, and I have banked up some nice overtime.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the employer sent an email saying that I am no longer allowed to work overtime, and every hour worked OT will be banked as vacation time instead.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The employer is making things even worse.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I don\u2019t want that, because if I am working OT, I deserve to be paid for it.<\/p>\n<p>So I immediately stopped responding to anything after hours or on off days, and have been working only 8 hours on my scheduled days.<\/p>\n<p>The frustration and passive aggression coming from my employer since I did that is unmatched.<\/p>\n<p>Truly, they should get an award for the snarky and condescending emails and texts they have sent me.<\/p>\n<p>I only have a few days left and will be filing an ethics complaint for the many egregious things I have seen once I am out of there.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s what they deserve, and I can\u2019t wait.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Wow!
