Masters champion <\/strong>Rory McIlroy<\/strong><\/a> has confirmed he will play the Genesis Scottish Open before heading to Northern Ireland for the final men’s major of the year.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The five-time major winner will attempt to win his second Open<\/a> title at Royal Portrush over 17-20 July.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But he will return to the Renaissance Club near North Berwick in the week prior as part of his preparations for golf’s oldest major.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Winning a national open is always special, and I’m pleased to have the chance to compete for another Genesis Scottish Open title,” McIlroy said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“It has certainly been a memorable year so far, and I’m looking forward to carrying on the momentum to the home of golf this summer.”<\/p>\n

New:<\/strong><\/p>\n

McIlroy is a former champion of the Genesis Scottish Open. He defeated home favourite Bob MacIntyre by one shot in 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old conjured ‘one of the best shots I’ll hit in my career’ on the 72nd hole.\u00a0<\/p>\n

From 200 yards, McIlroy hit a sublime two-iron stinger to set up a decisive birdie and break MacIntyre’s heart.\u00a0<\/p>\n

MacIntyre won the tournament 12 months later to fulfil a childhood ambition.\u00a0<\/p>\n

McIlroy will be joined in the field at the Genesis Scottish Open by several high-profile names. The tournament is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Matthew Fitzpatrick, Collin Morikawa<\/a>, Justin Thomas<\/a>, Max Homa<\/a> and Justin Rose<\/a> have also confirmed their participation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Next up on McIlroy’s schedule<\/a> is the Truist Championship.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He confirmed after the Zurich Classic of New Orleans that he was going to take a short break to recharge his batteries.\u00a0<\/p>\n

McIlroy will then head to Quail Hollow Club for the U.S. PGA Championship over 15-18 May.<\/p>\n
