Leeds United\u2019s dramatic defeat at Newcastle came with its fair share of controversy, with two penalties awarded.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Daniel Farke\u2019s side lost 4-3 at St. James\u2019 Park<\/a>, after the hosts completed a dramatic stoppage-time turnaround.<\/p>\n

Bruno Guimaraes scored a late equaliser from the spot, before Harvey Barnes\u2019 historic winner beat Lucas Perri in the Leeds<\/a> goal.<\/p>\n

Farke<\/a> will most likely be left scratching his head as to how Leeds lost the game, as ex-FIFA official, Keith Hackett<\/a>, reacted to the Whites\u2019 first-half penalty call.<\/p>\n

Brenden Aaronson atoned for Pascal Struijk\u2019s first-half miss<\/a> with a strike that put the Whites a goal to the good, right before Barnes levelled things up.<\/p>\n

Leeds were then awarded a penalty on the stroke of halftime, when the ball appeared to strike the arm of Newcastle\u2019s Malick Thiaw<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News<\/strong>, Hackett explained why Michael Salisbury\u2019s decision was the correct one. <\/p>\n

Hackett said: \u201cThe referee is in a great position to see and recognise that handball offence. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a good detection of the handball by the referee and correct with the penalty kick decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

Newcastle felt aggrieved, especially when the referee snubbed the Magpies of their own penalty moments later.<\/p>\n

However, Eddie Howe has likely forgiven all due to how the game ended.<\/p>\n

The defeat to Newcastle brings Leeds\u2019 seven-game unbeaten run to a crushing end, and quite frankly, the Whites deserved to take something back to LS11.<\/p>\n

But football is cruel, and that wasn\u2019t to be the case. However, it\u2019s games like these where Farke and the players can take great belief in that they can stay up this season.<\/p>\n

Leeds could still get relegated<\/a>, but with the Whites managing to get 14 shots off at a place like St. James\u2019 Park, the proof is there that they can stay up.<\/p>\n

The Whites threatened Newcastle\u2019s defence all game, and in the end, it felt like either side could have snatched the three points. On a different day, Leeds would have won \u2013 no doubt.<\/p>\n
