{"id":68243,"date":"2025-05-02T11:22:09","date_gmt":"2025-05-02T11:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/68243\/"},"modified":"2025-05-02T11:22:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-02T11:22:09","slug":"tiktok-hit-with-e530m-fine-after-illegally-sending-users-data-to-china-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/68243\/","title":{"rendered":"TikTok hit with \u20ac530M fine after illegally sending users\u2019 data to China \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TikTok has been given six months to bring its data processing practices in line with the EU\u2019s privacy rules, or suspend all data transfers to the country.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok said it \u201cstrongly contest[s]\u201d the Irish DPC\u2019s findings and plans to appeal in full.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Beyond the DPC\u2019s failure to substantively consider the extensive safeguards [already implemented by Tiktok], we are disappointed to have been singled out despite relying on the same legal mechanism employed by thousands of other companies providing services in Europe,\u201d said Christine Grahn, TikTok\u2019s head of public policy and government relations for Europe, in a written statement.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok pointed to its \u20ac12 billion investment in <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.tiktok.com\/en-ie\/project-clover-ireland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Project Clover<\/a>, which is rolling out data centers in Europe to store data locally in the EU, as well as other privacy safeguards.
