{"id":68249,"date":"2025-05-02T11:25:09","date_gmt":"2025-05-02T11:25:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/68249\/"},"modified":"2025-05-02T11:25:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-02T11:25:09","slug":"jd-vance-admits-putins-war-in-ukraine-wont-end-anytime-soon-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/68249\/","title":{"rendered":"JD Vance admits Putin\u2019s war in Ukraine won\u2019t end \u2018anytime soon\u2019 \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vance\u2019s comments came just a few hours after Washington <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/05\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-secures-agreement-to-establish-united-states-ukraine-reconstruction-investment-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signed a deal<\/a> with Kyiv to share the profits of Ukraine\u2019s mineral resources in exchange for reconstruction assistance from the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Despite limited American success so far in halting hostilities more than three years after Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his full-scale invasion, Vance also praised U.S. President Donald Trump as the only person who could bring about a cooling of tensions between Moscow and Kyiv.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think anybody could have gotten this deal done, other than Donald J. Trump. And when I say this deal, I mean, getting these guys to actually propose a peace settlement,\u201d Vance said.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate interview with Fox News on Thursday, U.S. Secretary of State <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/releases\/office-of-the-spokesperson\/2025\/05\/secretary-of-state-marco-rubio-with-sean-hannity-of-fox-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marco Rubio said<\/a> there needed to be a \u201creal breakthrough\u201d in the conflict soon, otherwise Trump would scale back his efforts to end the war. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the president is going to have to make a decision about how much more time we\u2019re going to dedicate to this,\u201d Rubio said.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/kremlin-vladimir-putin-volodymyr-zelenskyy-donald-trump-kremlin-crimea-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Putin announced<\/a> a temporary three-day ceasefire starting on May 8 to mark the end of World War II. In response, Ukraine\u2019s Foreign Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/andrii_sybiha\/status\/1916836168110399883\" target=\"_blank\">Andrii Sybiha called<\/a> for the ceasefire to last at least 30 days.<\/p>\n<p>Fighting has continued unabated in the meantime. On Friday, a Russian drone strike <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/russian-drones-kills-one-injure-least-three-ukraines-zaporizhzhia-governor-says-2025-05-01\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">injured 29 people<\/a> in Zaporizhzhia.
