There has been an outpouring of grief for \u201camazing\u201d poet Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother-of-three from Colorado Springs who was killed after her vehicle blocked a street in Minneapolis during an active ICE operation.<\/p>\n

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has claimed that officers were forced to open fire because Good had \u201cengaged in domestic terrorism.\u201d<\/p>\n

Noem said that Good rammed her vehicle into officers while leaving the scene, although this version of events has been disputed.<\/p>\n

Good\u2019s mother, Donna Granger, referred to her daughter as \u201cone of the kindest people I\u2019ve ever known\u201d in an interview with The Minnesota Star-Tribune. She added that Good was \u201cnot part\u201d of any organized protests against ICE.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was extremely compassionate. She\u2019s taken care of people all her life,\u201d Granger said. \u201cShe was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her father, Tim Granger, echoed Donna\u2019s sentiment. Speaking to The Washington Post, he said that his daughter had a \u201cgood life, but a hard life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Donna later told The Daily Telegraph that her late daughter was living in Minneapolis with her wife, Becca Good.<\/p>\n

Good previously went by Renee Macklin, thanks to her marriage to the father of her youngest child, Tim Ray Macklin Jr.<\/p>\n

Macklin Jr, who had spent 14 years in the U.S. Air Force before retiring and pursuing stand-up comedy, later died in 2023, according to his obituary.<\/p>\n

The couple even hosted a podcast together for a period. His father has called the couple\u2019s child an \u201corphan\u201d in the wake of Wednesday\u2019s shooting.<\/p>\n

Good remarried and took her wife\u2019s surname that same year, according to records seen by The Kansas City Star.<\/p>\n

Timmy Ray Macklin Sr, her late husband\u2019s father, confirmed to The Telegraph that he plans to travel to Minnesota to collect his grandson.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy main concern right now is getting my grandchild,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is horrible, it\u2019s murder. Everybody is terribly shocked right now,\u201d he added, referencing Good\u2019s killing. \u201cShe was a good, outgoing person. I didn\u2019t agree with a lot of her ways, but it\u2019s really sad to see these things happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a separate interview with the Star-Tribune, he confirmed that Good also had two other children who lived with her extended family.<\/p>\n

Her first husband, who spoke to US media on condition that his name was not used, said that Good was not an activist and that she was a devoted Christian who went to Northern Ireland on youth missions when she was younger.<\/p>\n

Mary Radford, one of Good\u2019s neighbours, told the newspaper that the late 37-year-old had a \u201cbeautiful family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have a son. He\u2019s very sweet. He loves our dog. He always has to go run up and pet and play with her,\u201d she said. \u201cThey\u2019re always outside playing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Radford told the newspaper that she was \u201cgonna miss seeing them,\u201d and that she was concerned for Good\u2019s son.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is so painful to think about how he\u2019s gonna fare in his life,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I just can\u2019t even imagine what that family is going through.\u201d<\/p>\n

Good was known for her creative endeavours, describing herself as a \u201cpoet and a writer\u201d on an Instagram account that appeared to belong to her. She also described herself as a \u201cs****y guitar strummer.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the Facebook page for Norfolk, Virginia-based Old Dominion University English Department, she won an undergraduate poetry prize in 2020 for a work titled “On Learning to Dissect Fetal Pigs.”<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen she is not writing, reading or talking about writing, she has movie marathons and makes messy art,\u201d the English Department\u2019s post continued.<\/p>\n

Speaking to The Washington Post, ODU\u2019s president, Brian O. Hemphill, said that Good had graduated with a degree in English in 2020.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is yet another clear example that fear and violence have sadly become commonplace in our nation,\u201d he added. \u201cMay Renee\u2019s life be a reminder of what unites us: freedom, love, and peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her shooting has sparked fury from local officials, with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey delivering a stark message to the ICE agents sent to the city by Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cGet the f*** out,\u201d he said. \u201cThis was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying, getting killed,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

His fury has been echoed by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who tore into a DHS statement about Good\u2019s killing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve seen the video. Don\u2019t believe this propaganda machine,\u201d Walz wrote on X. \u201cThe state will ensure there is a full, fair, and expeditious investigation to ensure accountability and justice.\u201d<\/p>\n
