{"id":682932,"date":"2026-01-08T20:05:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T20:05:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/682932\/"},"modified":"2026-01-08T20:05:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T20:05:10","slug":"police-hunt-after-crash-caused-bridge-to-crumble-onto-major-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/682932\/","title":{"rendered":"Police hunt after crash caused bridge to crumble onto major road"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The vehicle struck the overpass at Treeswoodhead around 2.50pm on Wednesday, causing rubble and bricks to fall onto the carriageways.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  This prompted a police response and saw a full road closure so that structural engineers could assess the damage.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The northbound section of the road reopened shortly after the incident, but the southbound section remained closed for over seven hours while inspections took place.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  No injuries have been reported and the police are trying to trace the vehicle.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Sergeant Brian Simpson said: \u201cThis vehicle has been travelling south when it, or its load, has collided with the underside of the bridge.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThis has caused damage to the structure and caused debris to fall, with other motorists having to take evasive action.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThe vehicle may have been carrying a high sided load but will have felt the contact with the bridge. It is imperative that we trace this vehicle and the driver.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI\u2019d ask anyone who was on the A77 yesterday afternoon travelling south, or who saw what happened, to provide any relevant dash-cam footage or information as soon as possible.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/police-scotland\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Police Scotland<\/a> has appealed to the public for information.
