{"id":68363,"date":"2025-05-02T12:23:11","date_gmt":"2025-05-02T12:23:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/68363\/"},"modified":"2025-05-02T12:23:11","modified_gmt":"2025-05-02T12:23:11","slug":"kca-suspends-s-sreesanth-for-three-years-seeks-legal-action-against-sanju-samsons-father-for-false-remarks-cricket-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/68363\/","title":{"rendered":"KCA suspends S Sreesanth for three years, seeks legal action against Sanju Samson\u2019s father for \u2018false\u2019 remarks | Cricket News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Kerala Cricket Association on Friday suspended former India pacer S Sreesanth from all cricket-related activities of the KCA for making \u201cfalse and defamatory statements\u201d against the association following Sanju Samson\u2019s exclusion from India\u2019s Champions Trophy squad earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>The KCA said that the decision to suspend Sreesanth, currently the co-owner of the <a rel=\"noamphtml noopener\" class=\"keywordtourl\" href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/about\/aries\/\" target=\"_blank\">Aries<\/a> Kollam Sailors franchise in the Kerala Cricket League, was taken at a special KCA general body meeting in Kochi on April 30.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"lazyloading\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"lazyloading-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/track_1x1.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/track_1x1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1px\" height=\"1px\" style=\"display:none;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing the controversial remarks, the KCA had issued show-cause notices to Sreesanth and the franchisee teams Kollam Aries, Alleppey Team Lead content creator Sai Krishna, and Alleppey Ripples. As the franchisee teams gave satisfactory replies to the notice, the meeting decided not to proceed with further action against them. However, the KCA instructed the team managements to be vigilant when including new members,\u201d the KCA statement read.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>The KCA also said that it will seek legal action for compensation from Sanju\u2019s father, Samson Viswanath, Reji Lukose and a TwentyFour news channel anchor for making \u201cbaseless allegations against the association in Sanju\u2019s name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the KCA-Samson-Sreesanth controversy?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In February 2025, the <a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/sports\/cricket\/sreesanth-issued-show-cause-notice-by-kca-for-false-and-defamatory-statements-over-sanju-samson-omission-9823204\/#:~:text=The%20Kerala%20Cricket%20Association%20(KCA,white%2Dball%20season%20for%20Kerala.\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">issued a show-cause notice against Sreesanth for slamming <\/a>the KCA in its decision to snub Sanju from the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad in December 2024. The wicketkeeper-batter was reportedly then omitted from India\u2019s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad for not playing the 50-over domestic tournament.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"subscriber_hide\" href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/subscribe\/upsc-special\/?utm_source=IESITE&amp;utm_medium=Banner&amp;utm_campaign=Inarticle\" title=\"Festive offer\" data-ie-event-category=\"Event_banner\" data-ie-event-action=\"Article\" data-ie-event-label=\"Desktop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img class=\"lazyloading\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin-bottom: 10px;\" data-lazy-type=\"lazyloading-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/UPSC_banner_640x70.jpg\" alt=\"Festive offer\" width=\"640px\" height=\"99px\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>KCA said its show cause notice was not for Sreesanth showing support to Samson, but for \u201cmaking false and defamatory statements\u201d which was a violation of his contractual terms as the co-owner of the Kollam Sailors franchise. <\/p>\n<p>In its response to Sreesanth\u2019s comments, KCA brought up the infamous 2013 spot-fixing case against Sreesanth to say that it always supported players, even if they were in jail, which was a dig at the former India pacer.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Sreesanth was in jail facing allegations in the infamous match-fixing scandal, KCA officials visited and supported him. Although the court quashed the criminal case, it is a fact that he has not been acquitted in the match-fixing case. In such a situation, there is no need for Sreesanth to take up the protection of other players,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sreesanth\u2019s response<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sreesanth had asked which international player KCA had managed to produce after Samson. At this, KCA slammed Sreesanth\u2019s \u201cignorance about Kerala cricket\u201d before listing out names of players: \u201cSajana Sajeevan, Minnumani, Asha Shobana, and junior players like Joshitha V.J. in the Under-19 World Cup winning team, Najla CMC in the Under-19 team, and Mohammed Enaan in the Under-19 Asia Cup team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Sreesanth did not back down after the show-cause notice, instead lambasting KCA in an interview with Kerala media outlet Onmanorama where he questioned why KCA has been overlooking local players. \u201cThey (KCA) take players from other states to play for us. For what? Disrespectful to our Malayali cricketers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have just one player at international level, Sanju. Let\u2019s all support him,\u201d Sreesanth said. \u201cThe so-called KCA has not produced an international cricketer since Sanju. We have great players like Sachin, Nidheesh, Vishnu Vinod, and many others, but are they (KCA) pushing them to play at higher?\u201d he questioned.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Kerala eventually proceeded to qualify for their first-ever Ranji Trophy final in the 2024-25, finishing runners-up behind Vidarbha in an injured Samson\u2019s absence.<\/p>\n<p>Why was Sanju Samson dropped?<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, explaining why Samson was ignored for the VHT tournament, KCA secretary Vinod S Kumar had told <a rel=\"noamphtml noopener\" class=\"keywordtourl\" href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\" target=\"_blank\">The Indian Express<\/a>: \u201cSanju had sent an email stating that he would not be available for the camp. The team had a short camp in Wayanad without him. Naturally, we only considered those who were part of the sessions for selection.
