OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Westside\u2019s London Dada has become a problem for opposing defenses this season, combining his shooting ability with an expanded all-around game.<\/p>\n
\u201cI like to think of myself as a good teammate first,\u201d Dada said.<\/p>\n
The junior guard\/forward has drawn praise from head coach Jim Simons for his perimeter shooting skills<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has always been a really, really talented shooter, a really, really capable perimeter shooter,\u201d Simons said.<\/p>\n
Simons also noted that Dada\u2019s impact extends well beyond scoring.<\/p>\n
That versatility was on full display in the Metro Holiday Tournament championship game against Creighton Prep, where Dada led all scorers with 23 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.<\/p>\n
\u201cI bring a lot of scoring, defense, rebounding,\u201d Dada said. \u201cI just want to make sure I help my team win as best as I can.\u201d<\/p>\n
Simons highlighted the rebounding performance as particularly impressive.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis rebounding, I mean 16 rebounds in the championship game is quite the stat,\u201d Simons said.<\/p>\n
Now standing at 6-foot-8, Dada has grown both physically and in his basketball skills, creating new possibilities for his game.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s grown, but he\u2019s also gotten stronger. He\u2019s gotten better off the bounce, which has allowed him to be a little bit more diverse and versatile in the ways he can score and where he can score it from,\u201d Simons said.<\/p>\n
The height increase has also changed Dada\u2019s role with the Warriors.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a little different being a little taller,\u201d Dada said. \u201cThis team, I\u2019m more of a guard. Traditionally, I\u2019ll be more of a wing or power forward, small forward. It\u2019s different, but it will help me out.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dada\u2019s emergence represents a significant transformation from his previous role on the team.<\/p>\n
\u201cLondon a year ago was kind of the fifth, sixth, seventh man on the team. He\u2019s grown a couple inches, he had a tremendous summer and now all of a sudden he\u2019s got this attention focused on him that he hasn\u2019t had before,\u201d Simons said.<\/p>\n
That attention has translated into scholarship offers from Division I programs, including Creighton, Nebraska and Omaha.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll the work I put in when I was younger — not that I didn\u2019t know if it was going to pay off — it\u2019s good to see it pay off. It\u2019s good to see myself play well, people be proud of me, people say I\u2019m good and all that stuff,\u201d Dada said.<\/p>\n
Despite the recruiting interest, Dada remains focused on his current season and is taking a measured approach to his college decision.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m still a kid. I\u2019m playing basketball, it\u2019s supposed to be fun. I don\u2019t have to make a decision. I\u2019m only a junior, I have a lot of time, so I don\u2019t want to put too much pressure on myself,\u201d Dada said.<\/p>\n
