Storm Goretti has taken hold.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Less than 30 minutes later, others felt the amount of snow on the ground had already doubled.<\/p>\n<p>Content cannot be displayed without consent<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Richard Johnson wrote on X: &#8220;Four inches of snow, Birmingham B45.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The snow storm, which The Met Office described as &#8220;dangerous&#8221; to travel in, quickly<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/birmingham-snowfall-live-amber-warning-33188525\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\"> caused disruption to public transport and road networks around the region<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/birmingham-airport\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Birmingham Airport<\/a> <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/birmingham-airport-halts-runway-operations-33195890\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">suspended all its runway operations<\/a> and a section of the M5 was <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/birmingham-snowfall-live-amber-warning-33188525\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">nearly unpassable due to the blizzard<\/a>. On <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/lichfield\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Lichfield<\/a> Road, multiple vehicles were stranded, including a lorry on the canal bridge, and the road blocked in both directions from Livingstone Road to Abbotts Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">National Express diverted a number of bus services away from their normal routes and Solihull-based bus operator LandFlight suspended all services due to the dramatic weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Train services were also scaled back across National Rail&#8217;s network and a multiple points failure was reported at Snow Hill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Notice boards inside Birmingham New Street station read: &#8220;Due to Storm Goretti, trains in the West Midlands and surrounding areas will be running on a reduced timetable from 7pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;Passengers are advised to take care to plan your journey and check before you travel. Only travel if absolutely necessary.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Storm Goretti will likely continue causing travel chaos until around tomorrow midday, according to The Met Office, which has issued an &#8216;amber&#8217; weather warning for the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Several schools in the West Midlands <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/full-list-birmingham-west-midlands-33192584\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">have already announced they will be closed on Friday<\/a> for safety reasons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Others said they will make a decision first thing in the morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The latest Met Office weather forecast for the region reads: &#8220;Heavy snow, associated with Storm Goretti, is likely to lead to disruption and dangerous travelling conditions Thursday night into Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;Significant falls of snow are possible, especially over higher ground.
