SUBSTANCE Cycles<\/a>, an Edinburgh-based bike shop<\/a> and repair firm, has\u00a0relocated\u00a0to\u00a0Inverleith<\/a>\u00a0after running out of space in their \u201ctiny\u201d\u00a0previous\u00a0location.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The shop did not have to move far, however,\u00a0relocating\u00a0just\u00a0\u201cten doors down\u201d\u00a0to a new location in\u00a0Inverleith.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The manager of the new store said that their\u00a0previous\u00a0location had become cramped, with customer spilling into their workshop\u00a0area.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The new shop features a separate workshop and showroom, where people can try out bikes\u00a0\u2013 something the\u00a0previous\u00a0store lacked.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The move has been in the works for some time now, with owners painting and redecorating the new location\u00a0for more than a year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Substance Cycles is a respected\u00a0bike shop and cycle repair company which was founded\u00a0at 26 Montagu Terrace\u00a0in\u00a0Inverleith\u00a0in 2023\u00a0by Rory MacKay and Andrew Graham.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A successful opening run led to the opening of a new store at 35 Hopetoun Road in South Queensferry.\u00a0<\/p>\n

They sell a full range of bicycles from Trek, Genesis, Cannondale, Frog, and more,\u00a0and\u00a0offer\u00a0expert bike repairs from a fully qualified team of bike mechanics.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Their\u00a0original store\u00a0in\u00a0Inverleith,\u00a0where the company spent two\u00a0years, was successful but\u00a0became cramped, and more space was\u00a0required.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fortunately, a new, larger location just down the road\u00a0at 6A Montagu Terrace\u00a0was\u00a0identified.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Refurbishments began around a year ago, and the\u00a0former dog shop\u00a0was refitted to\u00a0accommodate a spacious showroom and workshop.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite its\u00a0close proximity, the \u201cback-breaking\u201d labour of lugging goods and equipment up the road made this no straightforward task.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The move went ahead as scheduled, however, and an opening party was held on the evening of the shop\u2019s opening, on the 6th, to warm the place and welcome new customers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking today, MacKenzie Barker, bike mechanic and\u00a0newly-appointed\u00a0manager of the store, said:\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe owner spent about\u00a0a year refurbing this place \u2013 it used to be a dog grooming\u00a0shop\u00a0I think.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe other shop was\u00a0very successful, but it was very, very tiny, to the point where customers would walk in the front door and\u00a0they\u2019d\u00a0be standing in the workshop.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new shop allows us to have a\u00a0cyle\u00a0showroom, so people can come in and try before they buy, pick a bike, give it a spin, ask for advice,\u00a0that kind\u00a0of\u00a0thing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0have that\u00a0before,\u00a0we had no space for a showroom. We have much more product on the walls now.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was just a very, very tiny shop, and it was good as a starter, but this is an upgrade.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

MacKenzie was brought on to run the new store after the manager of the\u00a0previous\u00a0Inverleith\u00a0location decided to leave.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He described moving goods and equipment\u00a0by hand to the new store as \u201cbackbreaking\u201d but spoke of his excitement at being brought on to front the new operation:\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI was at\u00a0Bike\u00a0Tracks\u00a0previously,\u00a0they went under this time last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSo\u00a0yeah, nice to be back at an independent bike shop and\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0looking forward to the new year.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"Substance<\/a>Substance Cycles have said that the new shop is a significant upgrade and the new showroom area will be a boon to sales (C) Substance Cycles<\/p>\n

He\u00a0described\u00a0business\u00a0so far as\u00a0steady: \u201cWe\u2019ve\u00a0had repairs ticking\u00a0in,\u00a0but\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0only been open for two or three days.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had our opening on the 6th\u00a0and then our opening party on the evening of the 6th, with\u00a0maybe like\u00a050 or 70 people and\u00a0snacks and\u00a0beer\u00a0and stuff.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSo that was a nice booster, just to let everybody know\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0here.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Their new location can be found at 6A Montagu Street in\u00a0Inverleith\u00a0and is open Tuesday to Saturday.<\/p>\n
