A fresh update has emerged regarding the potential of Celtic FC striking a reunion with Birmingham City forward, Kyogo Furuhashi, whilst Blues boss Chris Davies has also issued his thoughts on the developing saga.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to Anthony Joseph and Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports via the publication’s live Transfer Centre blog (19:27 on Thursday, January 8th<\/a>), the Scottish Premiership champions have lodged an enquiry over the possibility of a loan move for the Japanese striker, with the Championship<\/a> side said to be “considering” the offer.<\/p>\n

It has been well-documented that Furuhashi has struggled for form ever since departing Parkhead 12 months ago, with a maiden move to the English game under former Hoops<\/a> assistant, Davies, still yet to work out for the 30-year-old.<\/p>\n

Birmingham<\/a> are hoping to eventually reach the Premier League for the first time since May 2011, with American ownership group, Knighthead Capital Management continuing to heavily back Davies in the transfer market, with both summer transfer windows throughout his 18-month tenure thus far seeing the West Midlands side break the bank when it comes to their overall spending levels.<\/p>\n

In the opening months of their record-breaking season as League One<\/a> champions, Blues were able to lure Jay Stansfield back to St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park on a club-record, seven-year deal from Premier League side, Fulham, before Kyogo became their second eight-figure investment in a 10-month period as he joined from Stade Rennais last July for a reported \u00a310m<\/a> sum.<\/p>\n

However, he is yet to open his account in the league for the ambitious second tier club, who reside in 14th, seven points outside the top six.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Celtic’s campaign has also been full of drama, with Martin O’Neill now back at the interim helm after Wilfried Nancy’s disastrous eight-game reign concluded with a 3-1 defeat to Old Firm rivals, Rangers, last weekend, with the 73-year-old reportedly looking to bolster his attacking options with a temporary switch for the Bhoys’ former cult figure.<\/p>\n

Kyogo’s status as a cult hero at Parkhead is for no other reason than the remarkable tally of 85 goals and a further 19 assists he was able to register in just 165 appearances after joining from Vissel Kobe for \u00a34.6m<\/a> in the summer of 2021.<\/p>\n

The 23-time international won the Scottish Premiership on four occasions with the Glasgow giants, but a poor run of form towards the end of his stint at Parkhead has continued in spells with Stade Rennais, where he only made six appearances, before scoring just once across all competitions so far for Birmingham after his high-profile summer move.<\/p>\n

Indeed, the striker saw a maiden Championship goal on the opening night of the campaign against Ipswich Town<\/a> ruled out for an alleged foul on Jacob Greaves, before opening his account for the club with a tap-in against Sheffield United<\/a> in the EFL Cup<\/a> first round.<\/p>\n

However, the weight of expectation has clearly come down heavily on Kyogo’s shoulders, as he has missed 12 big chances<\/a> in the Championship thus far across 23 outings – albeit only seven of those have been starts.<\/p>\n

With Celtic dropping to third place in the Scottish Premiership, some eight points behind leaders Hearts, it was initially claimed<\/a> by the Scottish Sun that a reunion with Kyogo could be struck ahead of their clash with Dundee United on Saturday afternoon, before the Herald later revealed<\/a> two potential stumbling blocks.<\/p>\n

It was stated that Kyogo’s \u00a340,000 per week wage at St. Andrew’s could prove a sticking point, as well as the fact Furuhashi still wants to prove himself in the Championship despite a frustrating start.<\/p>\n

However, it has since been reported<\/a> by Sky Sports that a loan enquiry has been submitted by Celtic, and that Blues are said to be considering the move, and that talks are ongoing between the two clubs.<\/p>\n

Despite the aforementioned reports, Davies outlined that Kyogo is still of great importance to Blues’ squad ahead of their FA Cup<\/a> third round tie at Cambridge United<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cPersonally, I think he\u2019s going to stay here and potentially battle through whatever comes in front of him,” said<\/a> Davies initially, before still admitting that things could change later in the window.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgain though, like a lot of things we\u2019ll obviously see as things progress through January where everyone is and make sure everyone is on the same page.<\/p>\n
