In some parts of the country, forecasters have warned of the heaviest snowfall in a decade.

While London has swerved the heavy snow, conditions still aren’t great and we’re due a day of icy rain. Some airports and airlines have, as a precaution, opted to cancel flights into and out of London.

While it’s not entirely clear whether Storm Goretti is the reason for each and every flight’s cancellation, we’ve compiled the numbers for all of London’s major airports.

If you want to know whether your flight in particular has been cancelled, you’ll have to search it on your airport’s website.

Heathrow Airport has by far the most cancellations, with 49 in total. This is 21 flights leaving Heathrow, and 28 coming into Heathrow.

Luton Airport has five cancellations, with four leaving and one coming in.

Gatwick and Stansted seemed to have avoided cancellations all together, but it’s wise to keep an eye on how things develop.

London’s weather is often very different to the rest of the UK. We spoke to expert Jim Dales, who reckons it’s at least in part to do with London being an ‘urban heat island’.

He added that the amount of concrete, with heat coming off it when the sun shines, is a factor as well.

Craig Snell, from the Met Office, said however: “Firstly, our warning areas highlight where we are likely to see the most disruption and impacts from the snow and don’t necessarily mean that is the only area which will see snow in the next day or so.”

He added: “The reason why the snow warning stops just to the north and west of London is all down to the battle between the cold air currently across the UK and milder air trying to come in from the Atlantic.”

Looking for more from MyLondon?
