{"id":684373,"date":"2026-01-09T11:41:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T11:41:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/684373\/"},"modified":"2026-01-09T11:41:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T11:41:12","slug":"european-rail-supply-industry-sets-out-hopes-for-new-eu-council-presidency-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/684373\/","title":{"rendered":"European rail supply industry sets out hopes for new EU Council presidency | News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Show Fullscreen<\/p>\n<p class=\"picture\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union\" src=\"https:\/\/d1c4d7gnm6as1q.cloudfront.net\/Pictures\/480xAny\/4\/8\/9\/76489_cypriotpresidencyofthecounciloftheeuropeanunion_591757_crop.png\"  loading=\"eager\" class=\"lazyloaded\" width=\"1011\" height=\"674\"\/><\/p>\n<p>EUROPE: UNIFE has set out its wish-list for the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, with the railway supply industry association calling for key policy changes to keep Europe\u2019s transport networks secure, including prioritising public procurement and military mobility reforms.<\/p>\n<p>The presidency of Cyprus\u00a0\u2013 which has had no railways since the demise of mining lines in the 1970s\u00a0\u2013 runs for six months from January 1 2026.<\/p>\n<p>UNIFE said changes to the upcoming Public Procurement Directive which are set to be released this year should \u2018ensure that EU countries guarantee the ongoing security of the continent\u2019s rail networks, by ensuring that only EU-made rail products are used.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>UNIFE said the Cypriot presidency also needs to prioritise the ongoing installation of ERTMS on key corridors, so both civilian and military traffic can move faster and securely.<\/p>\n<p>It said the Military Mobility Package released by the European Commission in late 2025 must be delivered, saying the harmonisation of rail standards across Europe is \u2018absolutely vital\u2019 for both civilian and military traffic.<\/p>\n<p>This would follow the Polish Presidency\u2019s work in the first half of 2025 to prioritise dual-use civilian and military rail projects.<\/p>\n<p>UNIFE said the \u2018crucial\u2019 work of the Danish Presidency in the second half of 2025 to bring down costs across the rail sector must continue, with harmonisation of standards and a simplification agenda, including cyber resilience.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Building on the momentum created by the Polish Presidency\u2019s focus on competitiveness and the Danish Presidency\u2019s drive for cost reduction, we now look to Cyprus to take the next step\u2014paving the way for a resilient and future-proof European rail system\u2019, said UNIFE Director General Enno Wiebe on January 7. \u2018There are many reforms and much continent-wide work to be done.\u2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Show Fullscreen EUROPE: UNIFE has set out its wish-list for the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":684374,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5174],"tags":[2000,299,5187,1699],"class_list":{"0":"post-684373","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-eu","8":"tag-eu","9":"tag-europe","10":"tag-european","11":"tag-european-union"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/115864960085574351","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/684373","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=684373"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/684373\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/684374"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=684373"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=684373"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=684373"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
