{"id":684465,"date":"2026-01-09T12:36:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T12:36:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/684465\/"},"modified":"2026-01-09T12:36:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T12:36:12","slug":"when-is-the-scottish-budget-and-what-might-be-in-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/684465\/","title":{"rendered":"When is the Scottish Budget and what might be in it?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Holyrood ministers are wholly in control of several other taxes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This includes non-domestic rates, often called business rates, which are based on the rental value of a shop, office, factory or warehouse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Holyrood also sets Land and Business Transactions Tax, the Scottish equivalent of stamp duty, which is paid on property purchases of \u00a3145,000 or more.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The government has faced calls from opposition MSPs and business groups to lower both of those levies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Council tax &#8211; another key concern for voters &#8211; is set, administered and spent by local authorities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Yet in recent years the government has effectively frozen rates by offering a financial incentive for local authorities to comply with a cap.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">That freeze was ended last year, and Robison is not expected to reimpose it in 2026-27, meaning people across the country could face tax hikes come April. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Holyrood ministers are wholly in control of several other taxes.
