{"id":684473,"date":"2026-01-09T12:41:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T12:41:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/684473\/"},"modified":"2026-01-09T12:41:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T12:41:14","slug":"new-whitecraig-primary-celebrates-areas-history-and-landscape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/684473\/","title":{"rendered":"New Whitecraig Primary celebrates area\u2019s history and landscape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1763764\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Whitecraig-exterior-2.jpg\" alt=\"Whitecraig Primary\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\"  \/>THE new Whitecraig Primary School has opened in East Lothian.\u00a0The facility, built by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.morrisonconstruction.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Morrison Construction<\/a>, has been developed on land adjacent to the previous building.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The school provides a \u2018striking\u2019 landmark at the village\u2019s western edge with its charcoal grey brick exterior, copper-coloured cladding, and accents and sawtooth-shaped roof.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The building boasts eight classrooms and an Early Years centre to meet demand from a growing local school population. A new signalised junction with Whitecraig Road was included as part of the project to create a safer route for cyclists and pedestrians.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastlothian.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">East Lothian Council<\/a> revealed that colours, textures and finishes inside create \u2018calming and nurturing\u2019 spaces that reflect the area\u2019s history and landscape. A palette of gentle greens echoes the fields around the village offset by soft blues and blush pink with timber dividers and light maple doors. Flashes of mustard mirror the school\u2019s yellow badge while charcoal and slate-coloured wall and flooring finishes link to Whitecraig\u2019s mining heritage.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Councillor Fiona Dugdale, the local authority\u2019s cabinet member for education and children\u2019s and family services, \u201cThis is a momentous day for the whole Whitecraig community. The closeness of the new school to the existing building has meant that children have been able to keep a close eye on the project\u2019s progress and excitement has been growing as it has neared completion. Being able to step inside their new school and claim it as their own is exciting for them and for staff.\n<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1763645 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Whitecraig-children-resource-centre.jpg\" alt=\"Pupils at new Whitecraig Primary\" width=\"431\" height=\"500\"  data- style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 431px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 431\/500;\"\/>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCongratulations to all of the teams who have been involved in delivering a new Whitecraig Primary School. With modern, efficient spaces fit for high quality learning and teaching, it will benefit the village now and for generations to come.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project received funding from phase one of the Scottish Government\u2019s Learning Estate Investment Programme, administered by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishfuturestrust.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scottish Futures Trust<\/a>.
