Piles of rubbish including a discarded suitcase and TV boxes are a \u201csign of neglect\u201d in one part of Merseyside as an investigation is launched into fly-tipping. Images seen by the ECHO <\/a>have shown how blue recycling bins were piled up with detritus at the rear of properties around Orleans Road and Sunbeam Road in Old Swan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Among the rubbish left behind were huge TV boxes and a bright yellow suitcase that had been dumped. A warning has now been issued that those responsible for leaving their waste in an anti-social manner could have action taken against them by Liverpool Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Waste collection teams are unable to collect rubbish and bins if the lid is not closed. The huge piles of fly-tipping were found just as work had been completed on a nearby area in Old Swan to brighten up a dank alley.<\/p>\n

Former city councillor Alan Tormey took it upon himself to report the fly-tipping. He said: “It was impossible to get purple bins out for the collection, and crews won\u2019t access the alley while it was in that condition.<\/p>\n

\u201cFly\u2011tipping in Old Swan isn\u2019t just an eyesore \u2014 it\u2019s a sign of neglect our community shouldn\u2019t have to tolerate. Residents deserve clean streets, swift enforcement, and a council that takes responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Liverpool Council spokesperson said: \u201cFly-tipping in alleyways is unacceptable. Not only is it unsightly for neighbours, but it can cause real issues by attracting pests.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll reported incidents of fly-tipping will be investigated and, where an offender can be identified, further action will be taken. Once this investigation has taken place, rubbish will be removed.<\/p>\n

\u201cHousehold bins should not be overfilled. The lid must be able to close for our waste collection team to collect them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate that some people may have more waste over the Christmas period, but any excess can be taken to a Household Waste Recycling Centre. The council also offers a free bulky waste collection service for larger items.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no excuse for fly-tipping. Anyone who spots illegally dumped waste, or who has witnessed an instance of fly-tipping can report it on the council website.\u201d<\/p>\n

Less than a mile away, improvement works have been underway in Goschen Street. Following reports of fly-tipping and overgrowth, a group of volunteers worked over two weekends to turn the neglected space into a cleaner, more accessible area.<\/p>\n

Large amounts of rubbish were cleared, and dense vegetation was stripped back to create a level surface.
