Westmont-led consortium sells The Westminster for \u00a3290
\nmillion with RIU rebranding the property under its own name.<\/p>\n
LONDON \u2013 Spain\u2019s RIU Hotels & Resorts has set a
\nbenchmark for 2026 London hotel deals with the \u00a3290 million\u00a0(\u00a3587,000 per
\nkey) freehold acquisition of the 464-room The Westminster, Curio Collection by
\nHilton, according to deal broker JLL. The deal is the biggest single-asset
\ntransaction in London since 2021.<\/p>\n
The central London hotel sold by a consortium including Westmont,
\nBHP & PPF and has been rebranded as the Hotel Riu Plaza London The
\nWestminster. The consortium acquired the property in 2018 for \u00a3187.5 and the
\nnew deal signals London\u2019s continued market resilience on the global stage.<\/p>\n
RIU, managing 50,000-plus keys globally, will terminate the
\nHilton franchise and take full operational control of this premium asset.<\/p>\n
This marks RIU\u2019s second hotel in London after it opened Riu
\nPlaza London Victoria in 2023.<\/p>\n
Originally built in 2003, The Westminster underwent a
\ncomplete renovation in 2021, at which point it joined the Curio Collection by
\nHilton. Following RIU\u2019s acquisition, it has become part of the chain\u2019s RIU Plaza\u00a0portfolio
\nof city hotels. Thanks to the recent refurbishment, the hotel will not require
\nmajor adaptation works, according to RIU.<\/p>\n
The Hotel Riu Plaza London The Westminster becomes the 13th
\nproperty in RIU\u2019s urban portfolio, joining those in Panama, Guadalajara
\n(M\u00e9xico), Madrid, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Berlin, London,
\nDublin and Toronto.<\/p>\n
RIU said it continues to focus on expanding in the world\u2019s
\nmajor cities and is currently building its third hotel in New York while
