Studies show that over the past few decades<\/a>, more Americans have been given uncommon names at birth, and researchers believe this is a sign of growing individualism. \u201cAs American culture has become more individualistic, parents have favored giving children names that help them stand out\u2014and that means more unique names and fewer common names\u201d Jean Twenge, a psychology professor at San Diego State told the BBC<\/a> in 2016. <\/p>\n

Having a baby and giving it a name<\/a> that people haven\u2019t heard before is also, apparently, a sign of affluence. \u201cWhen you have lots of resources and are less worried about scarcity, you can afford to stick out a little bit. In fact, it may be advantageous to go away from the crowd,\u201d Dr. Michael Varnum<\/a> of Arizona State University also told the BBC. \u201cThere may be more opportunities to innovate, for example. If you don\u2019t have a lot of resources or wealth, the better strategy might be conformity and to do what most people are doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

When it comes to strange names that make people wonder, \u201cWhat were their parents thinking?” some parents are repeat offenders. For some reason, they’ve given some or all of their children unique names. It’s definitely a choice, but at least the kids aren’t alone?<\/p>\n

A Redditor asked the NameNerds forum<\/a> for people to share the \u201csibling names have you come across, which made you think \u2018hmmmm\u2026\u2019\u201d and the responses didn\u2019t disappoint. Here are 17 of the most \u201cquestionable\u201d sibling names.<\/p>\n

1. Brothers: Grover and Oscar<\/p>\n
