{"id":685693,"date":"2026-01-10T01:22:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-10T01:22:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/685693\/"},"modified":"2026-01-10T01:22:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T01:22:14","slug":"uks-fca-helps-crypto-firms-prepare-for-new-regulatory-regime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/685693\/","title":{"rendered":"UK\u2019s FCA Helps Crypto Firms Prepare for New Regulatory Regime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The United Kingdom\u2019s <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fca.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Financial Conduct Authority<\/a> posted information for firms that want to offer crypto asset-related services in the country under the crypto asset regulatory regime that is expected to come into effect in 2027.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirms wishing to undertake any of the new crypto asset regulated activities will need to be authorized by us under FSMA [<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukdsi\/2025\/9780348277586\/contents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (Cryptoassets) Regulations 2025<\/a>] with permission to undertake those activities at the point the new regime commences,\u201d the regulator said in an <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fca.org.uk\/firms\/new-regime-cryptoasset-regulation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announcement<\/a> published Thursday (Jan. 8).<\/p>\n<p>The information published to help firms prepare for the new regulatory regime covers <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fca.org.uk\/firms\/new-regime-cryptoasset-regulation\/fsma-handbook\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crypto asset regulated activities<\/a>; the FCA\u2019s <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fca.org.uk\/firms\/new-regime-cryptoasset-regulation\/our-standards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">standards<\/a> for crypto asset firms and individuals; the regulator\u2019s approach to <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fca.org.uk\/firms\/new-regime-cryptoasset-regulation\/authorisation-supervision-enforcement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">authorization, supervision and enforcement<\/a> for firms that undertake these activities; a <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fca.org.uk\/firms\/new-regime-cryptoasset-regulation\/how-gateway-will-operate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gateway<\/a> for firms that want to undertake crypto asset activities; and a proposed <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fca.org.uk\/firms\/new-regime-cryptoasset-regulation\/transitional-provision\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">transitional provision<\/a> that will allow existing crypto asset firms that fail to secure authorization to wind down their U.K. business in an orderly way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the coming months, we will continue to publish further policy consultations setting out our proposed rules and guidance,\u201d the FCA said in the announcement. \u201cFollowing consideration of the responses to these consultations, our final rules and guidance will be set out in policy statements ahead of the implementation of the new regime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The FCA said in September that it proposed rules to promote good business practices among <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/cryptocurrency\/2025\/united-kingdom-fca-seeks-comments-how-consumer-protection-rules-should-apply-crypto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cryptocurrency firms<\/a> and expects to publish final rules in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The proposals will expand the FCA\u2019s regulatory remit to include protecting consumers from poor business practices, helping to build trust in the crypto sector, and ensuring that firms are operationally resilient and prepared to fight crime. Many of the proposed rules already apply to traditional financial firms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Advertisement: Scroll to Continue<\/p>\n<p>It was reported in August that the U.K. <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/cryptocurrency\/2025\/crypto-sector-praises-seismic-shift-in-uk-regulations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crypto industry<\/a> praised a decision by the FCA to end its ban on offering crypto exchange-traded products to retail investors.
