Multiple Scottish chip shops have been recognised among the best in the UK at the prestigious Fry Awards. The 14th annual awards, organised by Fry Magazine<\/a>, unveiled the top 50 takeaways and 10 best restaurants nationwide, with several Scottish favourites making the cut, Glasgow Live<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

Glasgow\u2019s<\/a> Catch Fish and Chips in Netherlee and Quintiliani\u2019s in Larkhall<\/a>, South Lanarkshire, were praised for their exceptional fish and chips, earning a place among the UK\u2019s finest takeaways. The Netherlee and Larkhall outlets were selected as two of the 10 Scottish chip shops honoured in the awards.<\/p>\n

Others included Lows Traditional Fish and Chips in Berryden Business Park, Aberdeenshire<\/a>, Monster Fish & Chips Co in Fort Augustus, Moore\u2019s Fish and Chips in Castle Douglas, Dumfries & Galloway, Redcloak Fish Bar in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, Sea Salt + Sole in Dyce, Aberdeen<\/a>, and The Fish Works in Largs, North Ayrshire, which maintained its winning streak. The winners were determined following unannounced visits by incognito judges, who evaluated food quality, cleanliness, staff proficiency, value for money, ease of ordering, and social media presence.<\/p>\n

Only those achieving the highest scores were awarded, with this year\u2019s pass mark standing at 97 percent for the takeaway category and 96 percent for restaurants, though several establishments achieved a perfect score. Competition organiser Reece Head said: “Congratulations to this year’s Fry Award winners.<\/p>\n

“Over the past 12 months, these operators have faced significant challenges, including higher wage costs, rising energy bills and exceptional pressure on fish prices. Despite this, they have maintained consistently high standards, supported and motivated their teams, and kept customers informed as changes were needed.<\/p>\n

“That commitment was evident to our mystery judges and is what secured each business a place among the UK’s leading fish and chip shops. Exceptionally high pass marks of 96 per cent and 97 per cent were set this year, demonstrating the consistently high shop standards in place.<\/p>\n

“Their success proves that our nation’s favourite takeaway remains nutritious, great value and stronger than ever.”<\/p>\n

Scotland\u2019s representation in the top 10 UK restaurants included Anstruther Fish Bar in Fife, The Quayside Restaurant and Fish Bar in Gourdon, Montrose, Aberdeenshire, and The Trawler in Golspie, Highland<\/a>.<\/p>\n
