{"id":686091,"date":"2026-01-10T05:42:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-10T05:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/686091\/"},"modified":"2026-01-10T05:42:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T05:42:10","slug":"germany-to-set-up-base-camp-in-north-carolina-at-the-world-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/686091\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany to set up base camp in North Carolina at the World Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The Germany national team\u2019s base camp for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been announced as North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">According to the DFB, as captured by <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/iMiaSanMia\/status\/2009644654061637969\">@iMiaSanMia<\/a>, Julian Nagelsmann\u2019s team will set up shop in Winston-Salem, a little over an hour away from Charlotte, give or take.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The DFB announced that the team will stay at The Graylyn Estate hotel and train on the grounds of Wake Forest University, which is just minutes away from the hotel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The base camp itself is strategically located in the middle of Germany\u2019s group stage venues &#8211; Houston, Toronto, and New York\/New Jersey. All three cities are a two to three hour flight away from Charlotte.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">From this writer\u2019s research, the location looks like a quiet, remote place, fully detached from the hustle and bustle of the World Cup (or v\u00f6llig losgel\u00f6st, as the Germans may say).<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Whether that is a good choice remains to be seen, though. Germany also set up camp far away from the capital area of Doha during the last World Cup, and the results were not exactly satisfying. Another bad example would be the women\u2019s national team making a horrible accommodation decision and being forced to hide their shoes from snakes and spiders during their last World Cup in Australia\/New Zealand, which also ended prematurely.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The national team will first fly to Chicago for their dress rehearsal against the USA (June 6) before settling into their new home.
