Aerial shots of the city taken on Friday show a pink glow from the grow lights at Birmingham City <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/sport\/football\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Football<\/a> Club lighting up both the sky and the stadium.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The lights the club used were LED lights, which help the grass on the pitch grow, a common practice used by club groundstaff. The revelation came amid rumours that <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/snow\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"snowLink opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">snow<\/a> was responsible for the unusual spectacle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Storm Goretti, the first named storm of 2026 to hit the UK, has been <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/gallery\/storm-goretti-wreaks-havoc-across-36527619\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">causing havoc across the country.<\/a> Warnings for snow and ice are in force across much of the UK as tens of thousands of people are still without power after the storm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Yellow warnings for snow and ice continue until Sunday and rail disruption may be seen through the weekend across England, Wales and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/scotland\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Scotland<\/a>, National Rail said. About <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/storm-goretti-leaves-thousands-homes-36522321\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">30,000 properties were without power<\/a> in the South West at 6am on Saturday, according to the National Grid&#8217;s website, along with close to 1,700 in the West Midlands and about 150 in the East Midlands, while all power has been restored in Wales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Downing Street said support was being offered to homes left without power. It will be a widely cold day, with frost lingering across parts of the country. Sunday will start dry in the east, but cloud and rain already present in the west will move steadily eastwards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;The rain will fall as snow inland across the north Midlands and areas further north.
