Unite Students has pulled the plug on its planned 605-bed PBSA scheme in Paddington and deferred delivery of a student scheme in Bristol.<\/p>\n
The Group\u2019s \u00a3147million Paddington scheme had finally been granted planning permission by the London Mayor\u2019s office, despite being rejected twice by Westminster City Council. Unite said that the scheme was no longer financially viable.<\/p>\n
The decision to walk away from the Paddington project will see the developer write off \u00a310million in planning costs.<\/p>\n
Unite said that its decision to delay the 500-bed Freestone Island scheme in Bristol will allow it to explore options to secure \u201cbest value\u201d from the development. The decision will free up around \u00a355million of capital that had been earmarked for construction.<\/p>\n
In its trading update for the past year, Unite\u2019s chief executive, Joe Lister, said that, despite a slower start to the next sales cycle, the business was still on track to meet its expectations.<\/p>\n
