{"id":686747,"date":"2026-01-10T12:52:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-10T12:52:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/686747\/"},"modified":"2026-01-10T12:52:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T12:52:11","slug":"food-rescue-group-the-nen-north-edinburgh-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/686747\/","title":{"rendered":"Food Rescue Group \u2013 The NEN \u2013 North Edinburgh News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Aldi-Christmas-food-donations.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1014\" height=\"676\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Aldi-Christmas-food-donations.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-220958\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Aldi helped deliver\u00a013,823 meals to people in\u00a0Edinburgh\u00a0over the Christmas and New Year period by donating surplus food from its stores.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The UK\u2019s fourth largest supermarket teamed up with local good causes across Edinburgh \u2013 including\u00a0Porty Community Fridge, Food Rescue Group and Tummies Not Trash \u2013 to donate a range of fresh and chilled foods from its stores after closing early on Christmas Eve and New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Neighbourly, the community giving platform that partners with Aldi, found that charitable organisations faced increasing pressure over the winter period, with four in five charities saying demand for their services had risen over the past six months and demand for foodbanks and other food provision expected to increase by nearly 30% over the colder months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Aldi has worked with Neighbourly since 2019 and provides surplus food from all of its UK stores to thousands of charities across the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Luke Emery, National Sustainability Director at Aldi UK, said:\u00a0\u201cThis Christmas we were proud to support so many incredible charities across the UK who provide essential support to those in need.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThe services provided by food banks are more important than ever in the current climate, especially over the festive period and we\u2019re committed to ensuring those that rely on them have access to a wide range of high-quality foods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Steve Butterworth, CEO at Neighbourly, added:\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re so grateful to have had Aldi\u2019s support for another year. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cChristmas is one of the busiest periods for our charities and the donations from Aldi mean we can help even more people across the country who need that bit of extra support over the festive period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Shoppers can donate food to local charities, food banks and community groups via the community donation points in Aldi stores nationwide.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Aldi also works with Company Shop Group, the UK\u2019s leading redistributor of surplus food and household products, to redistribute surplus food from its Regional Distribution Centres.
