There\u2019s no better time to watch a film<\/a> than in winter – and this hit war film is the perfect one. The film has gripped its audiences since it was first released in 2001.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Black Hawk Down, directed by Ridley Scott and based on actual events, tells the story of 160 elite US soldiers<\/a> who dropped into Mogadishu in October 1993 to capture two top lieutenants of a renegade warlord. However, they found themselves in a desperate battle with a large force of heavily armed Somalis, resulting in 18 American deaths and 70 wounded. The film<\/a>, which won two Oscars<\/a>, stars Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor and Tom Sizemore.<\/p>\n

One fan on Reddit<\/a> who goes by the username of MDuncan1182, said: \u201cBlack Hawk Down is better than Saving Private Ryan.\u201d<\/p>\n

The fan justified the reasons for their decision, saying: \u201cWith BHD you can have almost all the same conversations you’d have about SPR but SPR talks out loud too much about the overarching theme of the film<\/a> (is one man’s life worth more than another’s\/other’s).<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere BHD puts you into the story and the experience the soldiers are having and mostly allows you to think to yourself about the moral conundrums or philosophical\/political debates.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Rotten Tomatoes, one fan penned: \u201cBlack Hawk Down delivers phenomenal acting and tells a gripping story with brutal realism that makes it difficult to watch at times – but that raw honesty is what makes the film<\/a> so powerful.<\/p>\n

\u201cIts unflinching portrayal of war captures both the chaos and the brotherhood found within it. Overall, it stands as a favorite and a true masterpiece. The meaningful message about what war really looks like is both enriching and transformative.\u201d<\/p>\n

Saving Private Ryan was directed by Steven Spielberg<\/a> and stars Tom Hanks and Matt Damon.<\/p>\n

The story follows the WW2 Normandy Landings, when a group of US soldiers go behind enemy lines to retrieve a paratrooper whose brothers have been killed in action.<\/p>\n

On Letterboxed, one reviewer said: \u201cWithin 30 mins into Saving Private Ryan, Steven Spielberg rewrites everything about warfare filmmaking, destroys several Hollywood<\/a> clich\u00e9s, completely redefines the combat genre, and permanently cements his film’s place amongst the greatest examples of its kind.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the rest of the picture is no less intense, for this World War II epic remains powerful, visceral & harrowing throughout.\u201d<\/p>\n
