Liverpool are facing a battle for one of their long-time transfer targets.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After previously being mooted for an Anfield switch, Antoine Semenyo\u2019s move to Manchester City<\/a> has now been made official.<\/p>\n

But Semenyo is not the only Liverpool<\/a> target City have been looking at this month.<\/p>\n

It emerged last week that Marc Guehi is wanted by Man City<\/a> amid their ongoing centre-back issues.<\/p>\n

Then, somewhat out of the blue, Arsenal were credited with an interest in Guehi<\/a> earlier this week.<\/p>\n

Marc Guehi to Arsenal makes no sense, Liverpool the obvious choice<\/p>\n

However, Tim Sherwood is of the opinion that the Crystal Palace stopper moving to the Emirates makes no sense.<\/p>\n

Instead, when speaking to Sky Sports News<\/a>, the former Premier League manager named Liverpool as the obvious destination for Guehi.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cFrom Marc Guehi\u2019s view, why would he go to Arsenal?<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s not going to play if Saliba and Gabriel are fit, he would never get in the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he\u2019s a decent player, but I don\u2019t think he\u2019s the quality of those two centre-backs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think there\u2019s more a route into the first-team of Man City, and certainly Liverpool, which is the obvious choice.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, don\u2019t make any sense from Arsenal Football Club, and certainly for Marc Guehi\u2019s point of view, it makes no sense whatsoever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liverpool\u2019s stance on Marc Guehi transfer<\/p>\n

Sherwood is correct in his assessment that the England international, who has been called \u2018calm and composed\u2019 during his displays for the Three Lions (BBC Sport<\/a>), should not join Arsenal.<\/p>\n

While that is potentially good for Liverpool, it may be the case that he doesn\u2019t end up at Anfield either.<\/p>\n

After links to the Gunners emerged, the usually reliable David Ornstein said that the Reds want Guehi for the summer<\/a> when he is a free agent.<\/p>\n

Man City, on the other hand, would like to get a move done in the current transfer window.<\/p>\n

He stated: \u201cArsenal retain long-held Marc Guehi interest \u2013 most likely as summer option. AFC discussing Crystal Palace defender + in touch with 25yo\u2019s camp.<\/p>\n

\u201cLFC also want England int\u2019l at end of season, #MCFC keen immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n
