A further wind warning then comes into force for Antrim, Derry, and Tyrone from 21:00 on Sunday until noon on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">The weather will spread from the west on Saturday night with a drier spell likely for a time on Sunday morning, before further heavy rain moves through later in the day.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1766890833_711_grey-placeholder.png\" class=\"sc-5340b511-0 gUePlo hide-when-no-script\" aria-label=\"image unavailable\"\/><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/7a5143d0-ee17-11f0-8692-012f383b8e06.jpg.webp.webp\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"BBC Weather Watcher Fernisky Sun shines out of a blue sky with white clouds over grass ground covered with some white snow in Kells, County Antrim\" class=\"sc-5340b511-0 hLdNfA\"\/>BBC Weather Watcher Fernisky<\/p>\n<p>The sun shines bright against a snowy backdrop in Kells,  County Antrim<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">It is thought 20-30 mm of rain could build quite quickly during this period, with 40-60mm possible over higher ground.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">It will also turn much milder, leading to the melting of snow and therefore increasing the potential of flooding impacts in some places.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">The rain will be coupled by strong winds, with gales likely around coastal and exposed areas, especially from Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Strong south to southwesterly winds will affect Northern Ireland with gusts between 45-60mph (70 &#8211; 100km\/h) expected widely.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Stronger gusts can be expected at times around the coast and over higher ground and especially on Sunday night where there is a risk of gusts reaching 80mph (130km\/h) in more exposed coastal areas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">The Met Office has warned that the strength of the wind is likely to exacerbate impacts from heavy rain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Belfast City Council has issued a reminder that <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.belfastcity.gov.uk\/Community\/Community-Safety-and-Advice\/Emergency-planning\/Flooding-advice#13981-2\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 iCaRzc\" rel=\"noopener\">sandbags are available<\/a> if people think their homes are at immediate risk of flooding.<\/p>\n<p>Wind warnings for Irish coastline<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">In the Republic of Ireland, wind warnings have been issued around the entire coastline on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Irish Weather service, Met \u00c9ireann, has warned that it will be very windy with strong and gusty southwesterly winds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">This could lead to large coastal waves, some fallen trees, and travel disruption.<\/p>\n<p>Coldest night this winter<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1766890833_711_grey-placeholder.png\" class=\"sc-5340b511-0 gUePlo hide-when-no-script\" aria-label=\"image unavailable\"\/><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/b15d6fe0-ee15-11f0-8692-012f383b8e06.jpg.webp.webp\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"John O'Neill Small circles of white ice formed in a river.
