Gun apprentice Luke Cartwright<\/b> has a big goal which he wants to achieve this year \u2013 he wants to win or at least be in the finish for the Victoria Apprentice Jockey Premiership.<\/p>\n
The Victoria Apprentice Jockey Premiership is an annual award for the jockey who accumulates the most wins across all Victorian race meetings, running from August 1 to July 31.<\/p>\n
Talented apprentice Logan Bates<\/b> is currently leading the race, while Ryan Houston<\/b> and Cartwright are very close behind.<\/p>\n
Cartwright believes it will be a competition between those three apprentices for the award, and is excited about the challenge ahead of him.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don’t think I am ahead in the premiership, but it\u2019s a goal to see how close we can go,\u201d Cartwright told RSN\u2019s Correct Weight.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think between us three – me, Ryan Houston and Logan Bates – it’ll be a good competition in the last couple of months of the season, if it’s a tight finish for the Premiership.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt gets real competitive and I think it brings out the best in our riding abilities\u2026 I think it’ll bring out a lot of good banter, that’s for sure, in the rooms.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Cartwright would love to win the Victoria Apprentice Jockey Premiership, he admitted that his current goal is to win a few Stakes races.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut a goal before that would just be to get a few Stakes winners,\u201d Cartwright revealed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI went close in one the other day, so that’s a personal goal of mine.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut the Premiership would be nice to take home too.\u201d<\/p>\n
