\n\t\t\tSOLIHULL Council is proposing essential upgrades along the Blossomfield Road cycle route to help improve safety for cyclists and further encourage active travel.<\/p>\n
Existing bolt down orca kerbs and wands will be replaced with traditional kerbs between Dorchester Road and Widney Lane, forming a safe and fully segregated cycle route.\n<\/p>\n
There will be no changes to existing accesses along the route.<\/p>\n
The scheme is fully funded externally from the Active Travel Fund and Integrated Settlement fund, which is administered by West Midlands Combined Authority.<\/p>\n
\nCouncillor Ken Hawkins, member for Environment and Infrastructure, said: \u201cThe number of cyclists along Blossomfield Road has improved significantly since the current cycling provision was first introduced in 2022.<\/p>\n
\u201cA fully segregated cycle route with kerbs would encourage even greater usage by improving safety for cyclists, whilst providing other benefits such as better access for sweeping, deterring parking in the cycle route, and removing repair costs associated to the orcas and wands which are easily damaged.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe scheme is fully funded externally, with no impact on the Council budget.<\/p>\n
