{"id":689232,"date":"2026-01-11T16:17:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T16:17:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/689232\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T16:17:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T16:17:10","slug":"robert-hopkins-former-birmingham-city-and-west-brom-winger-dies-aged-64","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/689232\/","title":{"rendered":"Robert Hopkins: Former Birmingham City and West Brom winger dies, aged 64"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Birmingham City have announced former winger Robert Hopkins has died at the age of 64.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Hopkins, who was affectionately known to former team-mates and fans as &#8216;Hoppo&#8217;, played 207 times for Birmingham City across two spells and was part of the squad which won promotion to the First Division in 1984-85.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He was one of seven former players inducted into the Birmingham City Hall of Fame in 2012.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In between his two spells at St Andrew&#8217;s, Hopkins played for West Bromwich Albion between 1987 and 1989, making 83 league appearances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Baggies will wear black armbands in tribute to Hopkins for their FA Cup third round against Swansea on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He also appeared for clubs including Aston Villa, Manchester City, Shrewsbury Town and Colchester United.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Birmingham City have announced former winger Robert Hopkins has died at the age of 64.
