{"id":689671,"date":"2026-01-11T21:14:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T21:14:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/689671\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T21:14:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T21:14:12","slug":"northern-ireland-prison-service-to-receive-councils-highest-honour-freedom-of-the-borough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/689671\/","title":{"rendered":"Northern Ireland Prison Service to receive Council\u2019s highest honour \u2013 Freedom of the Borough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Northern Ireland Prison Service will receive the Freedom of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.<\/p>\n<p>The motion, proposed by Alderman Aaron Callan and seconded by Alderman Mark Fielding, was agreed at a special Council meeting held on Tuesday, January 6.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the honour, Deputy Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Alderman Richard Brown Stewart said:\u00a0\u201cIt is fantastic to see the Northern Ireland Prison Service awarded with this remarkable accolade for their commitment and dedication to public service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMagilligan Prison, located within the Borough, is one of Northern Ireland\u2019s key custodial facilities. It provides vital employment opportunities to the local community, and through educational programs, vocational training, and other rehabilitative initiatives, plays a critical role in helping individuals reintegrate into society as law-abiding citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alderman Callan, who proposed the motion, added: \u201cI am delighted that Council have agreed my motion to confer the Freedom of the Borough on the Northern Ireland Prison Service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNIPS has a long-standing history of dedicated service and sacrifice, playing a vital role in upholding law and order across the region.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe services commitment to justice is a testament to the men and women who have served within its ranks.
