At least three cars were damaged during the incident<\/p>\n

A three-car fire sent a huge plume of black smoke in the air at a town in South Gloucestershire<\/a> this afternoon.<\/p>\n

Avon Fire & Rescue<\/a> service attended the incident at around 2.30pm in the compound of the electrical sub-station in Yate<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Significant smoke and flames could be seen rising above buildings in the area this afternoon (January 11).<\/p>\n

The team confirmed that it was not the electrical substation itself as they sent three appliances and used two breathing apparatus at the scene.<\/p>\n

The fire service said that three vehicles were damaged during the fire. The cause of the fire is currently unknown and enquiries are ongoing.<\/p>\n

Members of the public were asked to keep their windows and doors shut during the incident due to smoke.<\/p>\n

Drone footage shared with Bristol Live shows cars on fire at the substation as the fire service work to put it out.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue<\/a> service said: “It was a three car fire. It was in the compound of the electrical substation. Originally it was believed it might have been the substation, but it wasn’t.<\/p>\n

“We don’t know the cause of the fire just yet, the investigation hasn’t quite concluded that. We sent three appliances, and two breathing apparatus were used.<\/p>\n

“Police did close the road but that is now fully open.
