{"id":689920,"date":"2026-01-11T23:56:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T23:56:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/689920\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T23:56:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T23:56:14","slug":"huge-fire-breaks-out-at-southwest-london-recycling-centre-disrupting-trains-to-heathrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/689920\/","title":{"rendered":"Huge fire breaks out at southwest London recycling centre disrupting trains to Heathrow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Tonnes of recycled waste has caught fire at a recycling centre in south-west <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/london\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:London;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">London<\/a> causing a train line to be partially closed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to tackle the blaze on Johnson Street, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/southall\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Southall;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Southall<\/a>, on Sunday afternoon, the London Fire Brigade said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Unverified videos posted on social media show huge plumes of smoke and tall flames seen above houses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">About 15 tonnes of waste was alight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Due to smoke from the fire, the Great Western Main Line has been partially closed as a precaution whilst crews respond.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">National Rail said major disruption between London Paddington and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/heathrow\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Heathrow;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Heathrow<\/a> Terminals and Reading is expected until 11pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Heathrow Express trains were suspended but resumed around 9pm. They faced delays of up to 15 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Firefighters were called to the scene at around 5.33pm. Crews from Southall, Hayes, Feltham and surrounding fire stations rushed to the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Firefighters had the fire under control by 8.35pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The cause of the fire is not yet known.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It comes a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/london\/southall-fire-warehouse-smoke-london-skyline-b1259649.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:few months after another huge blaze in Southall;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">few months after another huge blaze in Southall<\/a>. On November 24, 150 firefighters tackled a warehouse fire in Bridge Road, which is roughly a 23 minute walk from the current fire in Johnson Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A major incident was declared by the LFB after the service suspected there were fireworks and cylinders within the burning structure.
