A fundraiser has had a chop for charity to raise funds for a ground-breaking piece of equipment to help cancer patients.<\/p>\n

Linda Jones had a dramatic change in hairstyle in order to raise funds for the Christie’s campaign to purchase a new CT scanner.<\/p>\n

A new building is also required to house the scanner, and combined the project is expected to cost millions of pounds.<\/p>\n

Linda, 78, from Altrincham<\/a>, has played her part with a fundraising appeal which has ended with her sporting a quirky new hairstyle.<\/p>\n

She has already raised more than \u00a32,300, smashing her original target of \u00a31,000. Linda has a close affinity with the Christie, with her late husband David having received treatment there before he sadly passed nine years ago.<\/p>\n

While David was receiving treatment she attended arts classes which are put on for both patients and family members, and continues to do so.<\/p>\n

Since then, she has previously raised money for the Christie and the inspiration for her fundraising project came after she watched a presentation by Dr Heather Williams, who was speaking about how the new scanner would be much more effective and less time consuming for patients.<\/p>\n

Linda said: “She was talking about it and how brilliant this machine would be. And I just thought, marvellous, marvellous. And straightaway I went to the charity shop and I donated \u00a3100 and then started to think somewhere else to raise money.<\/p>\n

“When I was walking in Altrincham, I saw a young lady with very short hairstyle, coloured leopard print, and my head started to think. I thought, ‘oh, I wonder if I could do that and get sponsorship?’<\/p>\n

“So I looked into it a little bit more over the weekend, and then I thought, yes, that could be done.<\/p>\n

“So I sourced how I could get it done. I asked for sponsorship.<\/p>\n

“I signed up to a just giving page and went through the Christie. And it started from there.”<\/p>\n

Linda had her hair cut last week. She says of the transformation: “It’s a bit draughty now! I’m sat here with a scarf around my neck.”<\/p>\n

But she had the all important seal of approval from a younger member of her family. Linda said: “My 18 year old grandson, when he was told what I was going to do, he said, ‘cool’.”<\/p>\n
