That immediately spurred speculation that Koepka would seek to return \u200dto the PGA Tour, where the 35-year-old did not renew his membership before the 2022-23 season, according to ESPN.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It\u2019s unknown what punishment the nine-time PGA Tour winner may have to serve before being \u200dallowed to return.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/sport\/golf\/2025\/09\/09\/brooks-koepkas-irish-caddie-helped-him-climb-to-world-no1-they-want-to-get-back-there\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ricky Elliott: Brooks Koepka\u2019s Irish caddie helped him climb to world No 1. They want to get back thereOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Players must be one year removed from their most recent LIV event in order to be eligible to play in a PGA Tour event, per a tour rule instituted in the wake of several marquee players defecting in 2022. Koepka, who is eligible to compete in all four majors this year courtesy of his win at the 2023 PGA Championship, last played in \u200ca LIV event on August 24th in Michigan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">However, Koepka is the biggest name yet by far to seek reinstatement to the tour after defecting to LIV and his reinstatement request will test the \u2060tour\u2019s current sentiment toward allowing players to return.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The PGA Tour could offer an exemption, but did not offer any hints in its statement following \u200cKoepka\u2019s \u200bofficial \u200dsplit from LIV.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cBrooks Koepka is a highly accomplished professional, and we wish him and his family continued success,\u201d the tour\u2019s statement read. \u201cThe PGA Tour continues to offer the best professional golfers the most competitive, challenging and lucrative environment in which to pursue greatness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">According to a report by Golf Digest, the decision on Koepka\u2019s reinstatement will be made by new PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp. \u2060He is expected to listen to input from his Future Competition Committee headed by Tiger Woods, along with the tour\u2019s policy board.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Rory McIlroy, one of the \u2060most vocal LIV critics over the past four-plus years, said \u2060last week that he would now welcome players back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cI think they\u2019ve already paid their consequence. It would be up to the collective group of PGA Tour members to make that decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Koepka signed a four-year deal with LIV reportedly worth upwards of $100 million, but rumours began to emerge early last year that he was interested in returning to the PGA Tour. Koepka was a team captain, but did not wear LIV\u2019s team outfits and was often critical of the league\u2019s format and inability to gain better traction with golf fans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Koepka has fallen to 244 in the \u200cOfficial World Golf Ranking, having missed the \u200ccut in three of the four majors last year and with LIV players not earning points for league events.
