The post claimed, \u201cCybercriminals stole the sensitive information of 17.5 million Instagram accounts, including usernames, physical addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This data, Malwarebytes added, \u201cis available for sale on the dark web and can be abused by cybercriminals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Instagram subsequently <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/instagram\/status\/2010202301886238822?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E2010202301886238822%7Ctwgr%5E710d9075f6af70360daa64a383b88f01c965b381%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.engadget.com%2Fcybersecurity%2Finstagram-says-accounts-are-secure-after-wave-of-suspicious-password-reset-requests-192105188.html\">posted<\/a> (on X, rather than Instagram or Threads) that it had \u201cfixed an issue that let an external party request password reset emails for some people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company did not offer any details about the external party or the specific issue, but its post concluded, \u201cYou can ignore those emails \u2014 sorry for any confusion.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Instagram says that although some users received suspicious-looking password reset requests, it has not been breached.
