Photos and videos of the phenomenon quickly went viral on social media, with fans calling it “magical” and “straight out of a movie”.

The pink glow was seen around Birmingham City’s St Andrew’s Stadium on the evening of the FA Cup fixture, when bright floodlights from the ground reflected off falling snow. With snow settling on roads and pavements, the light bounced off the white surface, giving large parts of the area a soft pink colour.

Birmingham, UK experienced a pink sky event last night, which was extremely dreamlike.
This is due to the pink LED lights used at the Birmingham City football stadium reflecting snow on the field. pic.twitter.com/RcHAReyJNl— Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) January 10, 2026

Residents shared images of pink-tinted streets, cars and buildings, with many initially confused about the cause. The effect was most visible in neighbourhoods close to the stadium, where Birmingham City were hosting an FA Cup match under powerful floodlights.

Such optical effects are rare but can occur when artificial lights interact with snow and low cloud cover. Snow reflects light far more efficiently than normal surfaces, and when combined with coloured or warm-toned lighting, it can dramatically alter the appearance of the sky.

St Andrew’s Stadium, home of Birmingham City, has been a landmark in the city for more than a century. Opened in 1906, it is one of English football’s traditional grounds and regularly hosts high-profile domestic cup matches, including FA Cup ties.

Birmingham City are one of England’s oldest clubs, formed in 1875, and remain deeply rooted in the city’s identity. Known as the Blues, the club has a loyal fan base and a long history in English football, highlighted by their League Cup triumph in 2011.

On this occasion, football and weather combined to create a rare visual spectacle, turning an ordinary FA Cup night into a memorable moment for the city. For many residents, the pink skies were a reminder of how sport, atmosphere and nature can come together to transform familiar surroundings into something truly special.

– Ends

Published By:

Kingshuk Kusari

Published On:

Jan 10, 2026

Birmingham witnessed an unusual and dreamy sight on a winter night as the skies and streets near St…

[7820
855,12905,207994,748,393,97,4884,16,15
0":"post-690307","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-birmingham","8":"tag-birmingham","9":"tag-birmingham-city","10":"tag-birmingham-pink-sky","11":"tag-britain","12":"tag-england","13":"tag-fa-cup","14":"tag-great-britain","15":"tag-uk","16":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
