A tracking update later informed me that it \u201cmay be lost\u201d and I could request a refund. I pressed the refund option and was directed to customer service, which insisted I wait a week to claim.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><strong>A week later I was told I needed to file an <\/strong><strong>incident report<\/strong><strong> from the email address associated with my account. When I complied, the report was rejected as coming from an address that \u201cdidn\u2019t meet certain security standards\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><strong>I am now in the paradoxical situation that<\/strong><strong> if I use the address associated with my account, it doesn\u2019t meet their standards, but if I use a different address, it is not the one associated with my account.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><strong>Now<\/strong><strong>, when I check the order page, it<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>says I requested <\/strong><strong>to<\/strong><strong> return <\/strong><strong>the item <\/strong><strong>(I didn\u2019t), and that it will issue a refund once I do so (I can\u2019t, as I never received it).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><strong>Amazon has taken the first two monthly instalments of \u00a3108, while I remain phone-less.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><strong>SH, <\/strong><strong>London<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The company\u2019s apparent contortions to avoid a pricey payout are, in my opinion, shameless, and it is by no means to its credit that it stumped up instantly when exposure loomed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">It issued a refund within four hours of my getting in touch, and gave you a \u00a350 voucher as \u201can additional gesture of goodwill\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">It says: \u201cWe are sorry for the inconvenience our mistake has caused.\u201d .<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Others left empty-handed and hundreds of pounds out of pocket can, when all else fails, make a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukfinance.org.uk\/our-expertise\/cards\/chargeback-and-section-75\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chargeback <\/a>claim for the sum from their debit card issuer or, if they paid by credit card, ask for reimbursement under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">We welcome letters but cannot answer individually.
