{"id":690996,"date":"2026-01-12T11:58:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T11:58:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/690996\/"},"modified":"2026-01-12T11:58:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T11:58:14","slug":"jax-soars-to-glasgow-2026-pole-vault-mark-and-nikki-leaps-native-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/690996\/","title":{"rendered":"Jax soars to Glasgow 2026 pole vault mark and Nikki leaps Native Record"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"meta-date\">Monday 12th January 2026<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"707\" height=\"469\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/IndOP26-914739-707x469.jpg\" class=\"attachment-home size-home wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nikki Manson leaps to Native Record (photo by Bobby Gavin)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/data.opentrack.run\/en-gb\/x\/2026\/GBR\/indopen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Open results<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jax Thoirs<\/strong> soared to a Glasgow 2026 qualifying standard and <strong>Nikki Manson<\/strong> leapt to a new Scottish Indoor Native Record at the<strong> 4J National Open<\/strong> on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>As the name suggests, the event stands as an open graded meet staged indoors within a national events contest.<\/p>\n<p>The focus is thus both on participation and on performance.<\/p>\n<p>And it certainly felt as if both boxes were well and truly ticked at the Emirates Arena on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The Glasgow venue felt busy in all areas and as to be expected with no fewer than 787 names on start-lists.<\/p>\n<p>Men and women, boys and girls, and often all age groups, lined up to compete \u2013 each with their own 2026 goals in mind.<\/p>\n<p>As the programme unfolded, our superb <strong>scottish<\/strong>athletics qualified Officials, distinctively dressed in purple and red, made sure the event ran smoothly.<\/p>\n<p>We say it so often but that is because it is valid: Officials make our events happen (every year and across disciplines).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/IndOP26-927090.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-112512\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/IndOP26-927090-682x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"682\" height=\"1024\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jax Thoirs on his way to Glasgow 2026 pole vault qualifying standard (photo by Bobby Gavin)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nikki opened her season with a Native Indoor Record for the Women\u2019s Long Jump. Nikki leapt to 6.38m to improve her own mark (6.37m from 2023).<\/p>\n<p>Also in long jump, Shettleston\u2019s <strong>Joseph Lanahan<\/strong> leapt to 6.99m for a Scottish U16 Record.<\/p>\n<p>Then Jax was centre-stage towards the end of the afternoon and didn\u2019t he relish only a second comp in six years!<\/p>\n<p>The bar was cleared at 5.32m with the Team Scotland Commonwealth Games standard set at 5.31m.
