Plans being considered include a new community hub, new housing, money for local businesses, and improvements to Liscard\u2019s high street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">At a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/wirral\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Wirral<\/a> Council economy, regeneration, and housing committee meeting on January 19, councillors are being asked to approve the next steps on the<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/demolition-clears-way-regeneration-town-32248254\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\"> Liscard regeneration programme<\/a> and authorise interim Chief Executive Matthew Bennett to move projects forward and deliver them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In 2023, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/wirral-council\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Wirral Council<\/a> was given \u00a310.7m from the UK Government to level up Liscard and the local authority later approved \u00a31.2m of borrowing to meet a \u00a312m budget. In December, a report had suggested that \u00a31.25m could <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/12m-could-pulled-one-merseyside-33027741\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">have been moved elsewhere<\/a> but councillors later kept the funding for <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/no-brainer-idea-tackle-everton-33071008\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Liscard as a contingency.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">While Labour councillor James Laing had pressed the council for <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/developer-talks-over-merseyside-town-32998605\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">action on the derelict Dominick House,<\/a> a report to be put before councillors said the current funding did not include any plans for the building. However talks are ongoing about the site\u2019s future and \u201cofficers are still exploring alternative options\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The programme includes improvements to parts of Liscard Way, funding for shops and businesses in the area, new housing on the Seaview Road car park, and a potential new community hub.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/0_How-the-area-around-the-McDonalds-in-Liscard-could-look.jpg\" alt=\"How the area around the McDonalds in Liscard could look\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"How the area around the McDonalds in Liscard could look\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">How the area around the McDonalds in Liscard could look(Image: Wirral Council\/Mott MacDonald)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">New designs for Mother Redcap Place received positive feedback though there were concerns more measures were needed to tackle antisocial behaviour in the area. In October, a public spaces protection order <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/new-rules-brought-merseyside-town-32714504\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">was put in place <\/a>and in December, a shop was served with a closure order.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Now the council looks set to move its designs forward as options are considered for the wider area around Liscard Way and people will be asked for further feedback.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The council is also expected to publish tender notices for a developer to take on the Seaview Road development in early 2026.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/0_DHAY_LISCARD_DEMOLITION-1jpeg.jpg\" alt=\"The Seaview Road site will now be developed for housing\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"The Seaview Road site will now be developed for housing\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">The Seaview Road site will now be developed for housing(Image: Wirral Council)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Shops could also soon be asked to bid for money to help improve their shop fronts using other grant funding. This is similar to a scheme around Market Street and Argyle Street in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/birkenhead\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Birkenhead<\/a> which people told<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\"> the ECHO<\/a> had lifted the mood in the area and had <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/my-shop-falling-apart-theres-31105452\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">been a boost to local shops.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The report before councillors said: \u201cAlongside the property improvement scheme, the council has identified an opportunity to utilise capital funding to deliver small-scale wider neighbourhood capital improvements. Options include supporting organisations already in the area or using the funding to take over and transform a building.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The report said \u00a31m could be set aside for this but a challenge was the council did not own any available properties in the town centre.
