{"id":691192,"date":"2026-01-12T14:05:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T14:05:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/691192\/"},"modified":"2026-01-12T14:05:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T14:05:09","slug":"roy-jones-jr-delivers-warning-to-usyk-on-facing-deontay-wilder-next","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/691192\/","title":{"rendered":"Roy Jones Jr delivers warning to Usyk on facing Deontay Wilder next"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/roy-jones-jr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roy Jones Jr<\/a> has attempted to identify <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/oleksandr-usyk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oleksandr Usyk<\/a>\u2019s motivation for wanting to defend his WBC, IBF and WBA world heavyweight titles against <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/deontay-wilder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deontay Wilder<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Usyk unexpectedly called out \u2018The Bronze Bomber\u2019 towards the end of last year, with the pair now expected to collide in either April or May according to the Ukrainian\u2019s manager, Egis Klimas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/sport\/combat-sports\/2025\/12\/29\/oleksandr-usyk-in-talks-with-new-promoter-after-moving-away-from-riyadh-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In an interview with The National last month, Klimas revealed plans to land a multi-fight deal, which would include the Wilder showdown taking place in America<\/a>, with a US-based promoter.<\/p>\n<p>This, in turn, would allow Usyk to fulfil his <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/oleksandr-usyk-on-how-long-left\/#:~:text=Usyk%20is%20nonetheless%20targeting%20the,recent%20interview%20with%20Ring%20Magazine.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">goal of fighting two or three more times<\/a> \u2013 which, again, he clarified last month \u2013 before hanging up his gloves.<\/p>\n<p>Some feel that Wilder\u2019s best days may be behind him, having lost two of his last three fights and failed to set the world alight in his last outing, a seventh-round stoppage victory over Tyrrell Herndon, in June 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Usyk, meanwhile, comes off a destructive fifth-round finish over Daniel Dubois to become a three-time undisputed champion, across two weight divisions, this past July.<\/p>\n<p>For him to target a clash with former world champion Wilder, then, would suggest that he is now hoping to make his mark on the American boxing scene.<\/p>\n<p>Along with this factor, former multi-weight world champion Jones told <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/q5i5294Flro?si=M_NSSzhCWfzq7F9L\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Clubhouse Boxing<\/a> that Usyk likely sees Wilder as a prominent name to enhance his resume, but warned him that the American can land his famous right hand \u2018at any time.\u2019<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHe knows Deontay\u2019s a great puncher, but he [also] knows Deontay\u2019s starting to fall off a little bit. When you think about the past in boxing, the past was built mostly on black fighters \u2013 great, great fighters who were black.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow many great black fighters did Floyd Mayweather fight in their prime? None. Usyk wants to be a guy that fought everybody that he could, because you want every name you can get on your record.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the heavyweight division is different, because George Foreman was the champion at 44 years old.
