Plapp gave a free leadout to Team Brennan\u2019s Patrick Eddy, who promptly eased to the victory, leaving Plapp to settle for second. Durbridge refused an interview request afterwards, according to SBS Sport.<\/p>\n<p>Liv-AlUla-Jayco fared better in the women\u2019s race, going 1-2 with winner Mackenzie Coupland ahead of Ruby Roseman-Gannon.<\/p>\n<p>Cyclocross National Championships<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"970\" height=\"647\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/AW6_7762-970x647.webp.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-234558\"  \/>Alex Whitehead\/SWpix<\/p>\n<p>The Cyclocross National Championships took place in South Shields this past weekend. Cameron Mason broke away to earn his fourth consecutive men\u2019s elite title ahead of Toby Barnes and Ben Askey while Anna Flynn topped the standings in the women\u2019s elite race ahead of Xan Crees and Grace Inglis.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile on the continent, Thibau Nys and Tibor Del Grosso defended their Belgian and Dutch titles, while Marion Norbert-Riberolle defended her Belgian women\u2019s crown, Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado beat Puck Pieterse and Lucinda Brand for her first Dutch national championship since 2020, and FDJ United-Suez\u2019s C\u00e9lia Gery upset Amandine Fouquenet to take the French women\u2019s title.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Dumoulin finds new job in cycling<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1350\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/G-DsZVMXMAAAs-S.webp.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-234559\"  \/>Amstel Gold Race<\/p>\n<p>Tom Dumoulin will become the race director of the Amstel Gold Race from 2027. Dumoulin, who retired in 2022, will step into the role vacated by Leo van Vliet in what will be the 61st edition of the Netherlands\u2019 only WorldTour Classic in 2027.<\/p>\n<p>As well as being a former World ITT Champion and Giro d\u2019Italia winner, Dumoulin competed in the Amstel Gold Race six times in his racing career.<\/p>\n<p>\u00d3scar Rodr\u00edguez\u00a0fractures hip<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"776\" height=\"970\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/G-d54o3XoAA_wrY-776x970.webp.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-234560\"  \/>Ineos Grenadiers<\/p>\n<p>Ineos Grenadiers\u2019 \u00d3scar Rodr\u00edguez\u00a0crashed on a training ride recently, sustaining a hip fracture that he has undergone surgery on. A Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a stage winner in 2018, Rodr\u00edguez\u00a0moved to Ineos Grenadiers at the beginning of 2024 from Movistar and will now miss the first half of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Simon Yates retires<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"970\" height=\"678\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/GettyImages-2217468447-970x678.webp.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-202729\"  \/>Luca Bettini\/AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>In case you missed it, Giro d\u2019Italia 2025 winner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclist.co.uk\/in-depth\/simon-yates-retirement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Simon Yates has retired<\/a>. Despite having photographs taken of him in the new Visma-Lease a Bike kit in the past few weeks, the 33-year-old has decided to end his pro racing career.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement Yates said, \u2018I step away from professional cycling with deep pride and a sense of peace. This chapter has given me more than I ever imagined.
