The former Top Gear<\/a> star hit out that the follower should question their ‘grasp on reality’ during a heated exchange on X, formerly known as Twitter<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jeremy, 65, responded to the comments left by his fans under a video he filmed for farming campaign group No Farmers, No Food, which advocated for fair pay, sustainable practice and government policies to keep the industry stable.<\/p>\n

Speaking in a video filmed on his phone, the TV presenter said: ‘I’m Jeremy Clarkson, and in the next Parliament I’d like to see the Government prioritising farming.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘We’ve been asked to diversify and when we try to do that, the local authorities tell us we can’t and that needs addressing.’<\/p>\n

One X user replied under the video: ‘Please join Reform. You could be their advisor\/intermediate between Farmers on Farming and what they need.’\u00a0<\/p>\n

To which Jeremy hit back: ‘Oh dear. You don\u2019t seem to have grasp of reality.’<\/p>\n

The heated exchange fired the debate between X users about farming in Britain, with some even calling for Jeremy to be agricultural minister.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One wrote: ‘Farmers are the most important people. Without them we starve,’ as another chimed in: ‘Always buy as local to you as you can.’<\/p>\n

‘Stand for council,’ someone else encouraged, as another fan wrote: ‘Jeremy Clarkson for agricultural minister.’<\/p>\n

‘Double edged sword. They tell you to diversify, but tie your hands so you can’t,’ a fourth person penned, while a fifth wrote: ‘What I don’t understand is….why is it okay for one set of people, to tell another set of people, what they can and cannot grow or build on own land?’<\/p>\n

The No Farmers, No Food account is a farming advocacy campaign that was founded by media commentator\u00a0James Melville, who grew up on a family farm in Scotland.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The account is run by 20 farmers across the UK, and features videos and quotes from famous faces talking about farming, including Jeremy, David Beckham and Saturday Kitchen’s James Martin.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, Jeremy has remained vocal about his thoughts on British farming on his own social media, telling fans that the pub he runs ‘backs British farming all the way’.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, the former Top Gear host\u00a0won a 13-month planning saga to improve car parking at his Cotswolds pub, but he faces another showdown for its overflow area.<\/p>\n

He was\u00a0given permission by West Oxfordshire District Council for a permanent 170-space car park and the \u2018formalising\u2019 of staff parking at the Farmer\u2019s Dog in Asthall.<\/p>\n

The pub has been a huge hit with fans of his Amazon Prime show Clarkson’s Farm<\/a>, but it’s not been quite as popular with locals who are fed up with the huge increase in cars on the road.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite the latest planning victory, there is still a row rumbling over Mr Clarkson leasing a nearby 34-acre field, which he is using as an overflow car park.<\/p>\n

As soon as Mr Clarkson acquired the pub lease, he knew he needed to increase its parking capacity because of what happened previously when he opened his hugely popular Diddly Squat Farm Shop near Chadlington.<\/p>\n

The overflow car park is now covered in strengthened aluminium sheets to protect a neighbouring 1,400-year-old burial mound<\/a>, which contains the remains of an Anglo-Saxon warlord.<\/p>\n

A geophysical survey beneath the ground was triggered last summer when Mr Clarkson applied for retrospective planning permission to use the field as a temporary overflow car park, despite him using it for that exact purpose for the past year already.<\/p>\n

Locals have complained about the application, saying Clarkson only wants planning for 360 cars, although they say they have spotted 1,000 parked there at a time in the past year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Asthall Parish Council remarked in its last planning meeting in December that it met with locals and sent their concerns to\u00a0West Oxfordshire District Council.<\/p>\n

Minutes stated that the concerns \u2018included support for a heritage input concerning the surfacing of the car park, police input, the actual number of parking spaces needed and the fact that it is for temporary use’.<\/p>\n

The parish council said it was \u2018consulted on speed limits in the area but there was insufficient information on numbers to comment with certainty – despite a request for data none was forthcoming\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The signage is a problem for the parish council, which stated that \u2018there are a plethora of redundant signs in the area which need to be removed\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The retrospective planning application is yet to be decided, with the West Oxfordshire District Council website stating the application expiry date was on December 23.<\/p>\n

The closure of the overflow car park would be disastrous for the pub, which depends almost entirely on driving punters.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, Mr Clarkson has been given the green light\u00a0regarding the 170-space car park and staff parking, but it comes with strict conditions.<\/p>\n

Due to the chaos the pub has caused on the roads, Mr Clarkson\u2019s planning team must submit a Transport Management Method Statement.<\/p>\n

The statement should detail vehicle access, parking strategy,\u00a0\u2018measures that will be put in place to ensure safe and efficient operation\u2019 and \u2018proposed use of signage\u2019 due to the \u2018potential high level of traffic generation and parking demand at peak periods\u2019.<\/p>\n

Mr Clarkson’s successful application received no objections from Oxfordshire County Council’s archaeological services who were content that it wasn\u2019t going to disturb the burial mound, stating: \u2018The site is in an area of archaeological interest, however, the proposals will not result in any new below ground disturbance, and therefore, there are no archaeological constraints to this scheme.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n

The TV presenter spent \u00a31m to take charge of The Farmer’s Dog, which is close to his base in the hugely popular Clarkson’s Farm TV show and has spoken of how expensive the project has been.<\/p>\n

The Farmer’s Dog is preparing for a predicted boost in customers, which will come with the release of the new series of Amazon Prime’s Clarkson’s Farm in the Spring.<\/p>\n
