The Wombats women\u2019s team has opened its 2026 international campaign with a strong early showing, securing bronze at a 3×3 invitational tournament in Great Britain over the weekend.<\/p>\n
The event marked the group\u2019s first international outing of the year and provided a valuable opportunity to test benchmark performance against some of the European teams as preparations continue toward the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later this year.<\/p>\n
Head Coach Rob Pike said the tournament delivered exactly what the program was seeking at this stage of the 3×3 calendar.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a great tournament for our squad to test ourselves against some tough competition,\u201d Pike said.<\/p>\n
England sent two of their most experienced line-ups to the tournament, providing the Wombats with a high-quality challenge across the weekend.<\/p>\n
After a difficult opening day against England, the Wombats responded with clear growth as the tournament progressed. Wins over Northern Ireland and Wales highlighted improving cohesion and confidence, with the group settling into the pace and physicality of the 3×3 format.<\/p>\n
The Wombats narrowly missed a place in the final following a close semi-final loss to England, before responding strongly in the bronze medal match with a ten-point win over Wales to secure a podium finish.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m proud of this group and their hunger to improve,\u201d Pike said.<\/p>\n
