Ester Dean<\/strong><\/a> is clearing the air after having a hand in writing a Keri Hilson<\/strong><\/a> verse dissing Beyonc\u00e9<\/strong><\/a> in 2009.<\/p>\n

\u201cI submitted a lot of verses for that remix \u2014 one got picked, it was cowritten with Keri,\u201d Dean, 38, wrote via Instagram<\/a> on Wednesday, April 9, apologizing for the \u201cTurnin\u2019 Me On\u201d remix lyric that took a jab at Beyonc\u00e9, 43.<\/p>\n

Dean confessed, \u201cLooking back, it was childish and didn\u2019t age well. I see how it hurt people, especially women, and I take full accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Pitch Perfect actress<\/a> explained, \u201cI\u2019ve worked with and supported many women since, but that doesn\u2019t erase the moment. I am sorry for my part in it. Growth is real and so is this apology.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe name Becky had the Beyhive buzzing when Beyonc\u00e9 brought the moniker into the spotlight back in 2016. On the Lemonade track \u201cSorry,\u201d Beyonc\u00e9 sang, \u201cHe only want me when I\u2019m not there \/ He better call Becky with the good hair.\u201d After Beyonc\u00e9 dropped the song, the lyric sparked speculation about the identity of [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

Dean\u2019s statement came shortly after Hilson, 42, made headlines on Wednesday while speaking about her song and how the diss lyric came about.<\/p>\n

In the song, Hilson sings, \u201cYour vision cloudy if you think that you\u2019re the best \/ You can dance, she can sing \/ But she need to move it to the left, left,\u201d trolling Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s 2006 single \u201cIrreplaceable.\u201d Hilson then sings, \u201cShe need to go have some babies \/ She needs to sit down, she fake.\u201d<\/p>\n

During an appearance on The Breakfast Club<\/a> on Wednesday, Hilson said she does regret releasing the track with that dig at Beyonc\u00e9. However, Hilson alleged, \u201cThose are not my words.\u201d<\/p>\n

She recalled working with producer Polow da Don<\/strong> (real name Jamal Jones) at the time, who enlisted another writer to add the aforementioned verse.<\/p>\n

\u201cI come into the studio, and he plays me this verse. I\u2019m automatically like, \u2018I\u2019m not saying that,’\u201d Hilson claimed. \u201cI tried to fight him on it and I began writing my own.\u201d<\/p>\n

She alleged that the producer was \u201cquite forceful\u201d in resolve and made Hilson feel like if she didn\u2019t record the verse, it would ruin her career. (She recorded the remix ahead of the release of her debut album, In a Perfect World \u2026)<\/p>\n

\u201cThe mistake that I made was not continuing to fight,\u201d Hilson said<\/a> on Wednesday, claiming, \u201cBut I was in tears, I was crying, I was adamant that I did not want to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hilson added, \u201cI was young, I was super young. I felt I had no power, I felt I had no choice, but I did record my version which had nothing like that. It was on subject. The song is about men.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although Hilson feels plagued by the incident, she revealed in April 2021<\/a> that she and Beyonc\u00e9 cleared the air years prior.<\/p>\n

In addition to singing, writing and producing, Dean is best known for playing Cynthia Rose in the Pitch Perfect<\/a> franchise. She also performs in all three of the films.<\/p>\n
