{"id":692322,"date":"2026-01-13T02:40:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T02:40:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/692322\/"},"modified":"2026-01-13T02:40:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T02:40:15","slug":"victor-martins-to-juggle-alpine-wec-seat-with-williams-f1-test-role","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/692322\/","title":{"rendered":"Victor Martins to juggle Alpine WEC seat with Williams F1 test role"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Formula 2 race winner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/victor-martins\/444016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Victor Martins<\/a> will join <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/team\/alpine\/24858\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alpine<\/a>\u2019s Hypercar programme in the World Endurance Championship, while assuming the role of test and reserve driver at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/team\/williams\/13\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Williams<\/a> Formula 1 team.<\/p>\n<p>Martins spent a large part of his junior career as part of Alpine\u2019s driving academy, winning the Formula 3 title on his second attempt in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>He spent the next two seasons racing in F2 under the Alpine umbrella in 2023-24, before joining forces with Williams last season and making his Formula 1 practice debut at the Spanish Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, it was announced that Martins will graduate from Williams Driver Academy to become its official test and development driver for 2026, while simultaneously representing Alpine in the top echelon of endurance racing.<\/p>\n<p>Although the French manufacturer hasn\u2019t revealed which of the two A424 LMDh prototypes he will race in the\u00a0WEC, Martins will essentially fill one of the two vacancies caused by the departures of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/mick-schumacher\/21078\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mick Schumacher<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/paul-loup-chatin\/19361\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul-Loup Chatin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJoining Alpine Endurance Team in the FIA World Endurance Championship is a significant\u00a0step in my career and a responsibility I take very seriously,\u201d Martins commented. \u201cAlpine is a brand with a strong racing heritage and clear ambitions at the highest level of endurance racing.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCompeting in my first 24 Hours of Le Mans with this team is a huge motivation, and I\u2019m looking forward to working closely with everyone to push performance, build consistency and contribute to the long-term success of the programme.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/36-alpine-endurance-team-alpin.jpg\" alt=\"#36 Alpine Endurance Team Alpine A424: Jules Gounon, Victor Martins\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">#36 Alpine Endurance Team Alpine A424: Jules Gounon, Victor Martins<\/p>\n<p class=\"photographer\">Photo by: Shameem Fahath<\/p>\n<p>Martins makes the switch to sportscar racing after three mixed seasons with ART in F2 during which he won three races and scored 17 podiums, but wasn\u2019t able to improve on the fifth-place championship finish from his rookie year.<\/p>\n<p>The Frenchman already has experience of the Oreca-based Alpine LMDh, having taken part in the Bahrain post-season test at the end of 2024 and set the third-quickest time among the rookies.<\/p>\n<p>However, he isn\u2019t entirely leaving single-seaters behind and will support Williams F1 drivers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/alex-albon\/109625\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alex Albon<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/carlos-sainz\/15916\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carlos Sainz<\/a> as the series transitions to new regulations this year.
